I've had to cut off so many that were headed into the lawn and over the other veggie beds, but if I can train them the other direction I can put away the shears. Once I get the corn cleared out, I can get a count on the remaining squash.....except now the yellow crookneck on that side of the garden has renewed vigor and is threatening to take over the butternut! "Wow!" - pretty much sums it up I guess. :D

Those butternuts are beautiful. I have two plants of it growing but the Red Kuri winter squash is a take over king and has rapidly overlaid just about everything in the squash patch and everything nearby too and I am afraid that the butternuts actually got overrun. I cannot see any fruit on it but then again, I may be surprised once the folage starts dieing back to discover there may be more under there than I realize. Right now I can hardly see more than a few feet into the patch from any edge. kitsapFGhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06120640838501186514noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5597627580631284872.post-56817551057567553592012-08-20T19:56:14.520-07:002012-08-20T19:56:14.520-07:00Barbee, mine is Formica, too. I'll set something down and feel the grit. Sometimes I'll set a sandwich down and eat some grit! I've been chopping off the vines so no more will form. I doubt the babies would have time to ripen, and the ones that are left should get a bit larger than these early ones. The long yellow peppers were supposed to be red!
