<em>This is Amy, Granny's daughter. I have had a couple of requests for an update on Granny's family, for those of you who got to know us through her writings and photos, so in honor of her birthday yesterday, here it is.</em></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<em></em> </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<em></em> </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Since losing our beloved Mother/Grandmother/Wife, we are all adjusting fairly well. For those of you who've lost a parent, you know the saying "life goes on" is true to it's word, but I must say it just isn't quite as sweet without having her to share it with. Almost 9 months later, I still find myself picking up the phone to call her, or wanting to send her a photo on the computer. We (the kids) have all been taking good care of Mr. Granny, as well as the new additions to our families. We've added 2 new great grandchildren to the crew! Granny would have eaten them up! You all know she loved those babies.</div>

Carol L. Hattrup passed away peacefully on May 7, 2014 after battling cancer with her family by her side.<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="background-color: white;">Carol was born on January 26, 1939 to Ethel P. Rowden (Morefield) and Harry E.W. Forge, in Lewiston, Idaho. She married R. John Kunze in 1956, and had 2 sons, the youngest being born just days after her husband's death in 1959. In 1962 she married John (Jack) Hattrup, and together they had 3 more children. Jack’s job took them to Baker Oregon, and then Walla Walla Washington, before settling in Pasco in 1974, where they built their business and raised their family.</span><br style="background-color: white; line-height: 25.559999465942383px;" /><br style="background-color: white; line-height: 25.559999465942383px;" /><span style="background-color: white;">Carol was an avid gardener, blogger, talented artist and a lover of music, but first and foremost a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.</span><br style="background-color: white; line-height: 25.559999465942383px;" /><span style="background-color: white;"> </span><br style="background-color: white; line-height: 25.559999465942383px;" /><span style="background-color: white;">She was preceded in death by her parents and beloved step-father, H. I'll have Amy post the rest of this blog entry for me to try to explain....<br />
<br />
This is Amy.<br />
<br />
Granny's just not able to make things work this morning. A couple of days ago she took a pretty big spill and landed right on the back of her head. Since then she has had trouble keeping her train of thought, and making her fingers type what her brain wants them to. She has a doctor appointment on Monday to see where we go from here, however, up to now, the doctor has done absolutely nothing, and has yet to even start the chemo. For now, I will be her fingers, and I will post for her as needed. She still looks forward to reading those comments, so keep 'em coming!<br />

Taking no chances, The first thing I did was a deep scan of all files. It took about 1-1/2 hours. No infection was found, but to be on the safe side, I deleted all of my email and I also rolled the computer back 3 days.<br />
<br />
So forgive me, but everything I received after yesterday afternoon is no more. All of your current comments are kaput. I think you'd agree that is better than infecting your computers!<br />
<br />

<span style="font-size: large;">I'll do my Easter blog tomorrow!</span></div>

Amy does my grocery shopping, takes me to doctor appointments, does all my "beauty" stuff (sorry Amy, even you can't make a 75 year old beautiful), helps me shower and dress, calls doctor or nurse if I have a concern or request (sorry Amy, we tried), Delivers and picks up my RXs, and calls several tims a day to see how I feel or to ask if I need anything.<br />
<br />
But Amy doesn't garden.<br />
<br />
She knew the carrot seed mats had to go down soon, so I got <a href="http://annieskitchengarden.blogspot.com/2009/09/september-22-2009-home-made-seed-mat.html" target="_blank">my seed mat tutorial</a> out for her to read. <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
How did she do?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I gave her an A+ Maybe even an A++!!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Judge for yourself.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr_MjtA459aSe2PIm2D5YMAmpqssXIHqpVcC4qbZLaOq60xosttCJ4_muzZZPA9Q3Bb5RmcTyTJGg-WIPcDfprtv2rWnJ2Cu8P3wHh6O3EcQAUSBOFE_ZFSsWTaaCZJCAbxBokAnBHwFOW/s1600/2014-04-19+Carrots+(01).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr_MjtA459aSe2PIm2D5YMAmpqssXIHqpVcC4qbZLaOq60xosttCJ4_muzZZPA9Q3Bb5RmcTyTJGg-WIPcDfprtv2rWnJ2Cu8P3wHh6O3EcQAUSBOFE_ZFSsWTaaCZJCAbxBokAnBHwFOW/s1600/2014-04-19+Carrots+(01).jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
First she scratched in the leaves that had topped this bed for months, under clear plastic, in an attempt to solarize the soil and break down the leaves. I was (unhappily) surprised to see the leaves had not composted down very much.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo1uFupFvP5EXNLhK7BZAgLQbvtFlME87BeOws8kL0bpgwjwqR3rak_t2As7BM5XY6rCEmhRFsL9PkOjuR7ESQMVrrmj0-Z2U_RnW1MH-tABp0m7oEBi8lw9glkLB4TM8POywTQLRLuHu_/s1600/2014-04-19+Carrots+(02).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo1uFupFvP5EXNLhK7BZAgLQbvtFlME87BeOws8kL0bpgwjwqR3rak_t2As7BM5XY6rCEmhRFsL9PkOjuR7ESQMVrrmj0-Z2U_RnW1MH-tABp0m7oEBi8lw9glkLB4TM8POywTQLRLuHu_/s1600/2014-04-19+Carrots+(02).jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then she added some slow release, mixed with a bit of regular release fertilizer. *Disclaimer: That is NOT Miracle Grow in the shaker container! It' a mixture of chicken poo, turkey feathers and other organic ingredients, and the shaker is about 3-4 years old and a God send.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAq8HLxVcSdEu8R2ii-eLEvKN3jI_hELcWFCKntr2UH8QBMviBz6TJqtpd-_ta5vYo6fvqev9NZFziWp3vPRCc21wIcH4xwH-a8vp7WqcOGlUfQOKdF9_PvVGCEekmxUSIR_-0S45LJWIN/s1600/2014-04-19+Carrots+(03).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAq8HLxVcSdEu8R2ii-eLEvKN3jI_hELcWFCKntr2UH8QBMviBz6TJqtpd-_ta5vYo6fvqev9NZFziWp3vPRCc21wIcH4xwH-a8vp7WqcOGlUfQOKdF9_PvVGCEekmxUSIR_-0S45LJWIN/s1600/2014-04-19+Carrots+(03).jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
She removed all the clumps of leaves and sent them to the compost pile.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8qRL3eFHdmogFrXZeMnFtXAULBsKkIimsu95bJwR1XHHCGEA25Krtj677LX4IPbvmdap4emBL1N8W10ekWnu68nIf_BdfqKUwOqHB1Ph2jDHFWgZ5DuIZv1WoIT6FGCZVEHWj7X1kDzyn/s1600/2014-04-19+Carrots+(04).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8qRL3eFHdmogFrXZeMnFtXAULBsKkIimsu95bJwR1XHHCGEA25Krtj677LX4IPbvmdap4emBL1N8W10ekWnu68nIf_BdfqKUwOqHB1Ph2jDHFWgZ5DuIZv1WoIT6FGCZVEHWj7X1kDzyn/s1600/2014-04-19+Carrots+(04).jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
She raked it as smooth as possible, after removing some soil for covering the mats.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOSEs2_-XTc5TF_IirWdUyA2b_TAXcn4kSLKiBF9u1UN8dy2wDqd8Vp00cSbDxwO8KbmVVy85kiW2Nvg4XPD7otLKuoQasiFq-e_gbkjmnrMrjiVtgUsz8_J9l51nfjU8uIp1Sm-2CVjzl/s1600/2014-04-19+Carrots+(05).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOSEs2_-XTc5TF_IirWdUyA2b_TAXcn4kSLKiBF9u1UN8dy2wDqd8Vp00cSbDxwO8KbmVVy85kiW2Nvg4XPD7otLKuoQasiFq-e_gbkjmnrMrjiVtgUsz8_J9l51nfjU8uIp1Sm-2CVjzl/s1600/2014-04-19+Carrots+(05).jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
That removed soil was put into the wheelbarrow, where She again tried to sift out leaf clumps. Then she added a good amount of Pro-Mix with mycorrhizae. Mycorrhizae are supposed to make things grow better and stronger, plus it has mostly peat moss to lighten the soil. I also added a bit of vermiculite.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghjXMDRusA5uAJJBu9xr_TE1mooxIzfDF8cWVd_kllvuC063ARvE93lL1L2qkAzYBtQ6Lr24UxGGr33nClkuchuzUXBjk-DIdf6MjpVh6dYBxEitcVr4WYJDJC1DmlHz0RYlx23u3gb1Og/s1600/2014-04-19+Carrots+(06).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghjXMDRusA5uAJJBu9xr_TE1mooxIzfDF8cWVd_kllvuC063ARvE93lL1L2qkAzYBtQ6Lr24UxGGr33nClkuchuzUXBjk-DIdf6MjpVh6dYBxEitcVr4WYJDJC1DmlHz0RYlx23u3gb1Og/s1600/2014-04-19+Carrots+(06).jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
She laid out her seed mats and sprinkled enough of the 'topping" to hold them down,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggfDdSaE3Z_WC2C3pZDqSvdzHMPjNOjOA5pS0rRT53L81lDsBbR3FKyBX1wAd633YO3_A6zhHHUNC5k87xppjtwvZNOCKd4VoGzqsiY7LEl6GkTahGRR5BcCD-ZNH5i4IWY_ULud7oxG5a/s1600/2014-04-19+Carrots+(07).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggfDdSaE3Z_WC2C3pZDqSvdzHMPjNOjOA5pS0rRT53L81lDsBbR3FKyBX1wAd633YO3_A6zhHHUNC5k87xppjtwvZNOCKd4VoGzqsiY7LEl6GkTahGRR5BcCD-ZNH5i4IWY_ULud7oxG5a/s1600/2014-04-19+Carrots+(07).jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Last, she finished covering the mats with the soil mixture, tamped them down with the back end of the rake, and watered them in with a fine mist.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Good job, Amy. You just planted 360 carrots! I now pronounce you Master Gardener in Training!</div>

Man started it</a>, and <a href="http://gammyshouseblog.blogspot.com/2014/04/gardening-for-granny-rest-of-story.html" target="_blank">Gammy Tammy came through</a> with flying colors....literally.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTx8BoVWGhO1jXe0bgWJHisurhQ1Kl7zez2uMlrIHne_rt7aSiuW1QHiqNw1Vlkkz5tNI2GjMtXSg9tlOisEi40rgFrDvmgbHO64spU50b_vJt8B_sBv-2i_glbI_uKaeGtqQ54iNTHAM5/s1600/2014-04-19+Gammy+Tammy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTx8BoVWGhO1jXe0bgWJHisurhQ1Kl7zez2uMlrIHne_rt7aSiuW1QHiqNw1Vlkkz5tNI2GjMtXSg9tlOisEi40rgFrDvmgbHO64spU50b_vJt8B_sBv-2i_glbI_uKaeGtqQ54iNTHAM5/s1600/2014-04-19+Gammy+Tammy.jpg" height="640" width="466" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Well, look what came in the mail yesterday!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Yes, the larger one is the original watercolor! The 5x7 is an enhanced copy, perfect for a desktop frame, a lovely gift card, and (not shown) a pretty refrigerator magnate. Amy had already taken the original painting home to get it matted and framed when I discovered she didn't get the magnate in the photo. It's all Mr. Granny's fault. He was almost running to get it up on the refrigerator! :-)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
My plan is to print out the blogs that began it all, and put them in an acid proof envelope to attach to the back of the original painting. It will then be proudly displayed for generations to come.<br />
<br />
I am not a wealthy woman. I do live comfortably, with enough savings and investments that I'm not worried about finances at this point. That being said, with the love that shines through my world, from both family and bloggers, I feel like the richest woman in the world.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Thank you, thank you, Tammy!!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<br />
Yesterday I received another package in the mail. It was another beautiful beanie! This one was crocheted by Peggi. Peggi doesn't have a blog, so I'm sorry I can't link.<br />
<br />
Anyway, the cap is gorgeous, and a lovely shade of denim blue. It's what I call a 24/7 cap, as it's equally comfortable as a day hat as well as a night cap. My body gets really cold at night with my head uncovered.<br />
<br />
I was wearing the old gray cap when I opened the package, so I immediately plopped the new one on my head. Mr. Granny's reaction? "That looks good! So much better than that gray one!" So both Peggi and <a href="http://cox-himmel.blogspot.com/2014/04/on-and-off-needles.html" target="_blank">Anke</a> passed the hat test with flying colors.<br />
<br />
Mr. Granny took a photo. I was just going to take one of the hat, but we decided to use the more personal one, even though I'm in my pajamas and my robe is all messy. At least the hat is pretty!<br />

I had tried to keep it up, but only managed to get it half done, and the weeds were growing fast with the irrigation water now feeding them. He also got netting installed over the last spinach bed. I had wanted to be there to take pictures, but I fell asleep and slept through the entire job! John came over today, so I had him take pictures of the great job Bryan did.<br />

And that is <strike>my</strike> our nice, clean, Family Garden!</div>
<br />
<br />
Yesterday, after the boys got the crabapple tree planted, John went out and planted all the broccoli (6) and cabbages (12).<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
He was very careful to plant the seedlings 30" apart.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Cutworm collars were added to all.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Another thing I didn't photograph, and nobody in this family would believe it if they didn't see it with their own eyes........while John gardened, son Scott cleaned my kitchen and hand washed the dishes (the dishwasher was full of clean ones), then he damp mopped all the hard surface floors!<br />
<br />
Shannon came later, to plant the cabbage and broccoli, but since her brother already had that covered, we just had a nice long visit.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
They went for a dogwood, but those were all on back order. So they bought a flowering crabapple. Now I can tease them about planting a crabby tree for a crabby old lady, LOL!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Scott's dog, Lola, helped. Oh yes, she did!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
That was a very thoughtful gift, my dear boys.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I love you.</div>

She even asked what color I wanted (denim blue). Today I received the loveliest hat ever! It's "Dapple Blue", 100% wool, and reversible! You know what? I can feel the love and support coming through every stitch. Thank you for caring so much, Anke.<br />

Really?I had such a good sleep last night. I think it was the first time since last February! But, at 4:30 this morning, I heard the phone ring. Mr. Granny was talking and laughing with somebody, and I was getting really angry that someone would call that time of the morning. I kept yelling at Mr. Granny, asking him who it was. Did I say he's a bit hard of hearing? He heard nothing that I said....er, yelled. I finally got up and confronted him about it, that he woke me up at 4:30 in the morning.<br />
<br />
He: "Night".<br />
<br />
Me: "No, it's it's morning, I can read the clock."<br />
<br />
He: "It's 4:30 in the afternoon."<br />
<br />
Me: "NO! I went to bed last night, and I was sleeping so well!"<br />
<br />
Well, he finally convinced me, I think, LOL!<br />

I'm finding it a bit difficult to adjust to so much sitting, but tire so easily that this is where I spend most of my time now. The lawn chair, with the extra cushion and sturdy arms, makes it easier to get up and down from the chair. TV and laptop help save my sanity.</div>

<br />
My dear Blogger friend, Angie, from <a href="http://thenovicegardener.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">The Novice Gardener</a>, was aware that I'd lost some of my sense of taste after my recent radiation treatments, but that one thing I could taste was CHOCOLATE! So she sent me chocolates. Oh, my, did she send me chocolates! A lovely tower of chocolates from Harry and David.<br />
<br />
Yes, I have taste tested nearly every box of lusciousness. I'm not letting anyone else (that means you, Mr. Granny) even have one bite, because they are mine, <span style="font-size: large;">mine</span>, <span style="font-size: x-large;">mine!</span><br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
Would you share these? I thought not. And no way am I sharing my favorites, the chocolate covered dried cherries! I can't keep my fingers off of those, LOL!</div>

Once the boxes are empty, I'm going to leave them stacked right there on the old sewing machine that belonged to Mr. Granny's mother. I think they look right at home.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
More spinach. And more spinach. And more spinach.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Sunday I pulled out two more big baskets of spinach from the over wintered bed. Washed and spun dry, it came in at 38.7 ounces. I sent daughter Shannon home with half of it, and granddaughter Alicia with the other half. I also took advantage of having the girls here and had them pull all the remaining plants from the bed, 22.2 ounces. That's all for me! Total weight of the winter spinach harvest....92.9 ounces (5.8 pounds). A decent haul, I'd say!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I decided to get about a two week early start on the bush beans that will be planted in that bed. I'm taking a real chance that we won't get another killing frost, but I have a lot of seeds and can replant if necessary. I'm goin' for it!</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
Amy had her camera on me while I was doing a bit of work in the garden. When I look in the mirror, all I see is thinning hair on the front and sides of my head. I never even thought to get out a hand mirror to look at the TOP of my head! The photos showed massive hair loss, and the chance of a sunburned scalp. It positively glowed in the sun! Probably blinded the neighbor. So I cut off the top of my head (in the photo, of course) so you could see that I do actually get out to do a bit of gardening. Then I finally gave in and put on the little grey knit cap. My head is very small. My head looks like an egg on a neck. Maybe I should stuff the cap with newspaper :-)</div>

Our irrigation water came on today! I was a bit worried about the seeds that had already been planted, as we've had no rain and a lot of drying winds. I tried to keep things semi-damp with $$$ house water, about 30 minutes of it twice a week. Our irrigation water is flat rate, April-October, and we have to pay if we use it or not, so I definitely take advantage of it.<br />
<br />
I already had a sprinkler set up at the fence to cover the newly seeded areas, so Mr. Granny went out and turned on the faucet to check the pressure. The water had been on for about 3 days, but it takes a while to build up enough pressure to begin actually using it. I was soooooo happy when I saw that Rainbird sprinkler doing its job! <br />
<br />
As I looked at it, I thought I detected a double row of green at the end of the kennel garden. Could that be my sugar snap peas? I was out there two days ago, and there was no sign of any germination. I grabbed the camera and went out to get a picture, and sure enough....both rows of peas are up! Germination looked to be excellent, but I was standing in the spray of the sprinkler, and couldn't get any closer without getting drowned.<br />

The small lettuce bed, under bird protection, is beginning to show some real growth. Front to back, 9 each Little Gem, Anuenue and Yugoslavian Red lettuce. Six Winter Density, 9 Sierra and 9 Jericho lettuce plants are in the kennel garden, under the netting. That, along with the spinach that has also been planted, should be giving us some nice salads soon.</div>

I wrote, a week or so ago, that I wasn't going to let this blog become a pity party. Then my hair began falling out, and I thought.....maybe just a teeny, <span style="font-size: x-small;">teeny</span>,<span style="font-size: xx-small;"> tiny</span> pity party? Hey, I'm human!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
But, you know what? I'm over it. My hair is of absolutely no importance to me now. What is hair? A bunch of dead cells, like fingernails? Who needs a bunch of dead cells? </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgicxmMgEJ5Ggg4bTMhS0RY2o9ZuDzeFc_7lkzszPAhozSxwS9SxpZG2qBIgSx0TKfovdX96x5do1A55_B8H4tcUOsGDV46_gbN0-SYQrYgHcFvCSaJ5lxjxYxJTBHvR5RssVrXAeAS-lyq/s1600/2014-04-03+Hats.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgicxmMgEJ5Ggg4bTMhS0RY2o9ZuDzeFc_7lkzszPAhozSxwS9SxpZG2qBIgSx0TKfovdX96x5do1A55_B8H4tcUOsGDV46_gbN0-SYQrYgHcFvCSaJ5lxjxYxJTBHvR5RssVrXAeAS-lyq/s1600/2014-04-03+Hats.jpg" height="298" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Amy and Alicia bought me two cute hats and two cute "everyday" caps. My blogger friends have offered hand made knit and crochet caps. Who needs hair when one has such caring friends and family. I'm still me!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I'm mostly a stay at home person, so I'm not even considering a wig. Let the young people wear the wigs. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So this teeny, <span style="font-size: x-small;">teeny</span>,<span style="font-size: xx-small;"> tiny</span> pity party is over. For now. I'm not promising nuthin' this time :-)</div>

The Minigold tomatoes outgrew the plant window, so they were moved outside. We can bring them in if the weather turns too cold. It's supposed to be in the 70s by the end of the week, but night temps are still in the 40s, which is about ten degrees too cold for tasty tomatoes.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Our exit from the kitchen to our back patio was very poorly designed. The concrete steps are exactly the same width as the sliding glass door, making it a bit treacherous to walk out, possibly list a little to the left, and topple right off of the edge. Which is exactly what happened to Mr. Granny one morning last summer, when he did a face-plant right down onto the concrete below. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We said, at the time, we really needed to put some type of handrail there, to keep young and old safe from a fall. Then we promptly forgot about the entire idea.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Unfortunately, my legs have become so weak these past few days that I found it difficult to maneuver those steps, both going down and stepping up. I do like to walk out to the garden occasionally (I planted some carrots and radishes yesterday!), but I can just barely make the 4" step up the front porch, there was no way I was going to be able to pull myself up the 6" risers on the patio, with absolutely nothing to hold onto!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Daughter Amy and son-in-law "Bigfoot Bryan" to the rescue! Amy had her work crew build the hand rail, Bryan did all the sanding.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;">What a beauty! Amy and Mr. Granny painted </span><strike style="text-align: left;">each other </strike><span style="text-align: left;">the rail to match the railing surrounding the patio.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;">I've tested it several times today, and it's so easy to hang onto while descending, and a cinch for me to pull myself right up those two steps with ease! Now I can get over my fear of tumbling down onto that concrete below.</span></div>

This was the first hair loss from the radiation treatments to my brain. It began falling out about 5 days ago. Not too bad, as I could still do my "Donald Trump combover". I washed my hair this morning, and.......you don't want to know what happened when I combed it out. Let it suffice to say Amy is at Target tonight, looking at hats, caps and turbans!</div>

Cupcakes!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
She said her Mom baked them and put on the frosting, but Alicyn did the sprinkles. And what a beautiful job she did! She brought a whole dozen, so we'll be having a treat each day this week. Thank you, Alicyn!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Alicyn and her mom, Amy, also brought us lunch from McDonald's, so we did a lot of eating! Just as they were leaving, elder daughter Shannon drove into the driveway and promptly disappeared into the garage. ???? What was she doing? She was filling the freezer with another week of pre-cooked meals for our dinners! I can't tell you how much we appreciate this. We ate like kings all last week, and all I had to do was toss something into the oven or crockpot and make us a salad. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Shannon loves to cook. And she loves to cook in bulk for her family. Last week we had Taco Soup, Sour Cream Chicken Enchiladas, Honey Glazed Pork Chops with rice and veggies, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Lasagna, Chicken Pot Pie and Fried Chicken Dinner. I haven't been out to look in the freezer yet, but I know it will be something super good!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I gave the girls my cookbook collection. Amy, who holds down a full time job along with raising her family, took all the crockpot books. Shannon, like her mother, reads cookbooks like they are novels, then does her own thing. She took the bulk of the books. 1st. Man, the one she gravitated toward was the one you sent me! I expect some good things to come into my kitchen from that one, LOL! I also began clearing out the kitchen items I know I'll not be using. Shannon got everything from pie plates to Dutch oven and French bread pans. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Next came a string of grandchildren and two great-grandsons. Hug and kisses were given to all, dogs were tormented by little boys, and everyone had a good time.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
That entire gang headed home, and son John drove up. We had a good visit, and I shared my dinner with him because he was a good boy and chopped up the salad fixings for me. John is still not well from the accident he had at work before Christmas, when he was overcome by exhaust fumes blowing through a fan into his work space. He had severe carbon monoxide poisoning, followed by a stroke, and hasn't been able to return to work. It breaks my heart....he was always my hard working boy.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The only one missing was our youngest son. But he called. Twice!</div>

Another good day. I love my family.</div>
