September 11, 2012 - House Painting Days 8 and 9

We did it!

We finished the final side of the house today, with the help of son-in-law Bryan, who painted the high peak for us.  I still have a bit of brown trim and the propane tank left to do, but it's at the point where once we get new rain gutters installed and painted, I won't worry about rushing into anything else.  I'm glad it got this far, because I.AM.TIRED!!!!

Now we are all ready for the new vinyl  windows and sliding glass doors that will replace the old aluminum framed doors and windows.  That should help keep the house much warmer this winter, especially those two sliding glass doors.  It is always cold sitting near them.

  1. You have earned a rest. New windows sound so nice. If our house weren't a leaky boat, we could do that. Maybe some future day. Oh, who am I kidding? Bwaaa haa haa. Enjoy your lovely house.

    1. Stefaneener, not quite ready for a rest. We have a final paint inspection to do and minor touch ups to make (I have to repair the spot where Mr. Granny painted the arborvitae to the corner of the house). The front roof trim has to be scrubbed down and painted, hopefully today. New rain gutters have to be purchased, painted and installed. Sigh. Maybe someday.

  2. Woo hoo! Way to go, it looks awesome. You should DEFINITELY reward yourself somehow. Or maybe Mr Granny should reward you.

Side note, I love the new blog header picture, it's so pretty.

    1. 1st. Man, an entire day in the recliner, with a stack of (so far) unread magazines and an endless supply of junk food would suffice ;-)

  4. Spiffy! And as your reward for making your place look nice and keeping the neighborhood neat, you'll get a nice increase in your tax bill. Hey, no good deed goes unpunished-LOL!
Just kidding. It's looking neat as a pin. You should be proud. And Mr. Granny should be...taking you out for a celebration dinner!

  7. Coming along nicely. Our old slider had a big air gap at the top you could pass papers through. Replacing it was important! ;)

    1. Cloud, our sliders don't leak, but the aluminum frames get so cold the frost forms on the inside in the winter. We've spent our winters in AZ for the past 15 years, so I had forgotten just how much cold passed through those doors.

  8. Yay, Granny! I bet it feels good to get this far. It'll be so nice to have your windows and doors done. We did ours a few years back and it made a huge difference. They are also so much easier to clean and keep clean.

    1. Langela, I'm definitely looking forward to it, especially the two big patio doors. Especially the one that's right next to my computer desk!

    1. Random, not quite yet. The window installers just dropped off the window/door trim that I had requested be delivered prior to installation, so I can have it all pre-painted. Sooooo much easier than having to tape everything off and paint it after it's installed! No hurry though, as window day is still a couple of weeks away.

    1. No, no, Donna! I'm afraid that's beyond my expertise, LOL! I'm having a very reputable local glass company do it. They weren't the cheapest, but they've been in business here for many years and have an excellent reputation for their quality work.

  14. Well Done! Are you going to repurpose the old sliding doors? A cold frame perhaps? Have a rest....

    1. David, the glass company takes them for recycling. The doors are way too large and heavy for use as a cold frame. They are double tempered glass, and I wouldn't even be able to lift them. I thought about using one of the windows, but then I decided my gardening season is long enough without my extending it even farther! I still have that nice metal frame my son brought over. It can be covered with plastic and used as a mini garden greenhouse. That is, if I can ever get it down from the shed ceiling, LOL!
