October 31, 2012 - Happy Halloween!

Princess Alicyn wishes you a

Happy Halloween!

And happy birthday to our son, John!

*We haven't been home (in WA) for Halloween in over 15 years, so I had no idea how many trick or treaters we should plan on.  I bought $15 worth of miniature candy bars.  So far we've had 0 kids at our door.  Yes, that's ZERO.  Mr.Granny is in 7th. heaven and overdosing on candy already!  Granddaughter Alicyn will probably come for her treat tomorrow.

  1. She is so adorable. And we get zero trick or treaters here too. But we were warned by our neighbor that we don't get any. We did get one, the first year we were here. A friend around the corner brought his daughter. But most people won't go down our street. It looks like an alley way. It is one car width wide with no sidewalks.

    1. Daphne, we used to get quite a few kids here, mostly teenagers or car loads of kids. We don't have sidewalks, but live on one of the busier streets. In the past 20 years, many new subdivisions have built up north of us, with newer homes and sidewalks and a higher population. I suppose they get the kids now. I did end up getting 4. A mother dressed like a French maid (Mr. Granny would have enjoyed that one!) carrying a little dragon baby who was way too young to eat candy, then two teenage girls smeared with lipstick, who loudly announced they were zombies. I gave them all two big handfuls of candy, so Mr. You-know-who couldn't eat it all :-) Alicyn, Alicia and Alicia's boyfriend all showed up later, so they got some of it too.

  2. Save some for me! We live in the country so we never get trick-or-treaters. I'm ok with that.

    1. Langela, I still have a bowl full of it, plus more in the bag!

  3. Trick or treating was slow in our neighborhood, too. Not very many houses decorated and not that many kids out...

    1. Anke, our house is very well lit at night, with a wide open driveway, so I expected more. We're a bit rural though, so the houses are not packed closely together. It's probably too much work for the kids to get from house to house.

  4. Happy Halloween! You'll have to put that candy up and dole it out to Mr. Granny like we do to the kiddos. ;-)

    1. Barbie, I'm just glad there weren't any Butterfingers in the mix. He'd have had to dole those out to me!

  5. What a beautiful princess! With trick or treaters it kind of depends on the neighborhood if there are lots of kids or not. I used to live in a 55+ community and it was depressing not to have any little ones around. Now we get lots. But I'm thinking one visit from your princess is worth 100 other kiddies!

    1. Lana, the princess made it here last night. She had a big problem, and needed her Grandma after she stepped on the hem of her dress and ripped it loose all across the front of the waistline. A quick gathering with needle and thread, then whip stitching it back to the waist, then using the scissors to shorten the dress by 2" and she was back out trick-or-treating again.

  6. Beautiful princess! We haven't gotten trick or treaters since my younger boy, now 33, was about 14 and a couple of kids he babysat came by. We have a very long, scary driveway that keeps 'em away!

  7. She is pretty, she must take after her Granny. We have had 2 years in a row without visitors (here in the city, of course we would have none at the farm, ha), so alas, last night, we turned the lights off and watched TV in the dark, ha. Maybe next year....

    1. But of course, 1st. Man! She actually does look a lot like I did as a child, but I have brown eyes, while hers are a vivid blue/gray.

  8. What a darling outfit. :D We never get trick or treaters because we are out in a rural area.

    1. Kitsap, her skirt had lights in it that flashed brightly as she walked through the dark. A fun safety feature!

  10. Your granddaughter is adorable. We had a similar experience in our new neighborhood trick or treating. It was a complete ghost town. We had to hop over to another neighborhood or else the kids wouldn't have got anything.

    1. Thanks, Kris. She's quite the character!

I can remember years ago having 50 or more kids on Halloween night. We always got more in our tiny Arizona town than we did here this year.

    1. Wow, David....that's a lot of goodies! When we were first married (50 years ago) we'd get up to 100 or more. Kids and parents were very trusting back then, not so much any more.
