The wind is blowing,
Hold on Granny!
The trees are bending,
There goes Annie!
The birds are thinking
What was that?
The wind is swirling
Hold on to your hat!
What's the concern?
I beg your pardon,
I'm getting worried.....
Ooops, there goes my garden!

A WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 PM PDT THIS AFTERNOON.
* TIMING: WINDS WILL INCREASE THIS MORNING AND REMAIN STRONG THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON.
* WINDS: WEST 30 TO 40 MPH WITH GUSTS NEAR 50 MPH.
Patio tomatoes and peppers are protected. Bamboo sticks are holding the pots down so they don't blow off.
Larger tomato plants around the patio are shielded from the strong winds (and expected low temperature tonight).
Seedlings pushed up against the house for extra protection.
I just planted these four tomatoes yesterday. So far the shed is protecting them from the wind.
I really should have waited another week to plant this row of peppers. The plants are going to have a rough time of it today.
I think (hope) these tomatoes and peppers will be OK, sheltered by the fence.
A broccoli plant is struggling, flattened by the wind. I've already lost one to cutworm and two more to damping off. I only have two left, including this one, so it may be a broccoli-less year for me. I planted a few seeds directly in the garden as replacements, so let's hope something grows.
Don't you just hate it when you put all that work into something only to have it ruined by the weather! I know I do. We can only do what we can do, though. Everything looks so nice, Granny.
ReplyDeleteYes I do, Langela. The forecast had great weather from last Thursday on, and the weatherman lied again. It's supposed to freeze tonight or tomorrow night, depending on whether the newspaper or The Weather Channel is correct. Only 32 though, so I don't expect any damage.
DeleteI so hate the wind. We get bad wind here too. In fact we were joking about it the other day. We figured our flat area of Arlington wouldn't get a lot of wind. We thought our old house in Winchester would have been worse. But nope. For some reason we get lots of wind. We have even had two microbursts since we have moved here three years ago. I just wish my wind gauge wasn't broken. It never registers anything over 10mph. I just have to laugh. I hope your plants make it.
ReplyDeleteDaphne, we always have got a lot of wind here, but I think this year has been worse than most years. I know I've had to clean up the pine tree mess in the front yard a lot more often, and now I get to do it yet again :-(
DeleteThis seems to be a bad spring just everywhere. Boy, do I remember those winds from our days in Moses Lake and growing up in Eagle, Idaho. Hope you make it through with no damage. We are drying out after 2.5" of rain, tho many in the area got 4-5".
ReplyDeleteRay, you've had more rain in a day than we've had so far this year! We've had 1.26" since Jan. 1st.
DeleteOh, my, Mr. Weatherman has sure been rough on us this year! I hope your plants all survive, especially that broccoli. We get some of the winds like Chicago here. Is your little furbaby all better? Nancy
ReplyDeleteNancy, Annie seems fine today, thank you for your concern. We still don't know if she hurt her back or had a tummy ache, but she didn't move much for a couple of days. This morning she was back to normal.
