  1. Wow that is a pretty cool carrot! Doesn't it make gardening fun and interesting! Looks like your garden is still doing quite well! Mine seems to be winding down! Great harvest!

  5. AG-that is the FINEST mutant carrot I've ever seen. I had a triple this year, but that is unreal! I wonder what causes that...
You're still getting plenty, but where is the bunny's basket of lettuce? I know you must have forgotten---you DO have lettuce, don't you???????? Otherwise, Mr. Bunny will need to have a "talk" with you!
    :)

  9. Shawn Ann, the garden is giving me a lot right now because it knows I'm trying to wind it down for my move to AZ in just 3 over weeks!

    ********
Barbie, I've never seen a carrot with so many perfect *fingers*, and only attached at the top!

    ********
Mrs. Pickles, it's nice to finally be getting good sized carrots. I was getting tired of scrubbing those baby ones.

    ********
Thanks, Nartaya. I'm only harvesting 2-3 days a week now, but getting quite a bit at one time. The tomatoes and squash are slow.

    ********
    Robin, Frank helped me ;-)

    ********
Ginny, I suppose I'll let cookie eat it, but maybe I should try to sell it on Ebay!

    ********
Thanks, Ribbit. They taste beautiful too!

  10. Sue, get out your reading glasses. Third picture down, a large container (12 ounces) of new Red Sails lettuce for Cookie.

  11. Wow that looks like a mid July harvest not mid September.

  12. Good looking carrots, you are having a great year.

  13. Vanessa, it really does! My peppers are in full bloom, my tomato plants are loaded with green fruits, my cucumbers are just now beginning to get a few cukes and a lot of blossoms. It's too bad I can't extend summer into November!

Kris, not a great year compared to past years, but better than I thought it was going to be. It's definitely as much as we can use, with some to give away. Unfortunately, it was never enough to bother with canning, other than the batch of salsa and the jams.

  14. Great harvest Gran! That carrot looks like a Buddha's Head citron.

Again, I'm amazed by your peppers.

Oh, and how are Leona's baby lemons holding up? Hopefully they'll mature this winter.

  15. Nice variety of veggies harvested this week. The warmer weather is giving your garden a good kick.

I thought you were going to stay in WA this year for the winter?

  16. Thomas, three more legs and it could have been an octopus!

Leona has two beautiful full sized lemons, but she also has a disease. Her lower leaves have turned all yellow spotted, while the new growth looks green and healthy. I had her behind the zinnias, and I don't think she had enough air circulation. We moved her a couple of weeks ago, but she's not looking good at all. I do hope her lemons ripen for me. We'll still take her to AZ next month, then I think I'll plant her outside and just keep my fingers crossed she survives.

  17. Rachel, we thought we had the AZ property sold, but it fell through. We have to go back down and do our fall cleanup and maintenance, and hope it sells while we're there. We've dropped the price to a break even point, we can't go lower. If it doesn't sell, we'll still be spending our winters there.

  18. You are an incredible gardener! What a harvest for this time of year. I'm speechless, and believe me that's saying... well, I'm speechless.

  19. Thank you, Jody! I'll be sure to tell Frank what you said ;-)

  20. Granny great harvest for the week. Love you peppers. Mine never seem to get red. Season is too short.

  21. Just keep on chugging along! Looks great! That carrot is spectacular! Makes me want a salad.

  22. You are raking in the beans and peppers and that mutant carrot is pretty cool looking! The rest of the carrots look pretty fine too - but the five fingered one is definitely interesting.

I cannot believe it is getting time for you to pack it up and head south again. Keeping my fingers crossed for you that you find a buyer while you are down there this time.

  23. Wilderness, it was touch and go with mine this year, but we finally got the high 90s temperatures they needed. I doubt I'll get many more red ones though. They have been sweet as sugar, and I love them to add crunch to my sandwiches. I'm also in fajita heaven with all the fresh peppers and the last of the sweet onions.

    ********
    I'm chuggin', David!

Thanks, Kitsap. I'm not looking forward to all the work ahead of me at the AZ property. There's always so much yard work to do after leaving it empty for 8 months.

  24. Beautiful harvest, Granny. ;)

I thought of you a few days ago as we passed through Pasco en-route to home. We bought some wonderful WA peaches before leaving the state... still enjoying them.

  26. Amazing harvest. Love your mutant carrot. How much did it weigh?

  27. Diana, what a lovely trip you had to Montana!

    ********
    Thank you, Veggie PAK!

    ********
Norma Chang, I don't know how much it weighed, as I weighed it with all the others. However, its "fingers" were all about 6" long. Our rabbit like it!

  28. Gorgeous peppers!! Wow, they look lovely! And the mutant carrot is seriously cool!

*swiping a few 'maters... ah... bliss... :P

  29. Wow, your carrots are gorgeous. What variety do you grow? I grow Scarlet Nantes and they look stumpy compared to your beauties. What is your secret?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Meems, I think those are either Ingot or Burpee A #1 Hybrid. My Scarlet Nantes and Red Cored Chantenay didn't do well at all, they were stubby and deformed.
