The turkey is thawing in the refrigerator, rolls have been baked, cranberry sauce is chilling and the squash casserole is precooked and ready for the oven. It looks like everything is under control. I have to go to the store in the morning to buy apples for the cake, and I'll get it baked in the afternoon. That just leaves the turkey to roast, the potatoes to cook and mash, and the gravy to make on Thursday.
Rolls, cranberry sauce and squash cooling on the counter. There just happened to be enough dough left over for a few cinnamon rolls for Mr. Granny's breakfast and snacks. I might force myself to eat one too ;-)
Five-year-old Alicyn has requested root beer, vanilla ice cream and bacon for her Thanksgiving dinner. Of course, I will see that she gets it! I have a feeling I'll be able to talk her into a nice warm roll with butter, too.
Those rolls look wonderful. I could easily eat them with butter and muscadine jelly and would want nothing else at all for Thanksgiving dinner.
ReplyDeleteI had to buy two small cans of crescent rolls for a 5-year-old for Thanksgiving. That was his request; he'll get it.
Dianefaith, would you believe, right in the middle of making those rolls, my husband asked if we could have Pillsbury Crescent Rolls? If you look closely, there is one roll missing in the corner of the far pan. He declared them delicious, and dropped the subject of the crescent rolls :-)

The only difference I see in this one and most of the others is it uses 1/3 cup of sugar instead of 1/4 cup. I proofed my yeast (I use regular yeast that I buy in bulk) in the water, with a bit of the sugar. Other than that, I followed the recipe as written. There is a video on YouTube that shows how to cut and "flip" the rolls. I didn't flip, I just rolled them up.

DeleteHappy Thanksgiving Granny. Oh to have my whole family with me. Sadly my son decided that he won't come home for Thanksgiving. I'm so sad. At least my daughter is here. She hasn't been here for years as she has been in school in Canada and their Thanksgiving is in October. She was in class for the last three Thanksgivings.
ReplyDeleteDaphne, at least my kids all get along now. When they were younger, I could always count on someone getting their nose out of joint, and the day being nearly ruined by a pouter. Now that they are adults, things run pretty smoothly.

ReplyDeleteAnke, I hope they are as good as they look. I haven't tried them, and the recipe is new to me, but they sure do seem light and fluffy......but BIG! I think one roll per person is going to be plenty!

DeleteThat's a great assortment of meat! We're just having smoked turkey and ham for meat. Now that I'm thinking about it, I can't wait until tomorrow to eat it. It just sounds so good. We provide everything bu the desserts. I let everyone else decide what we will have for dessert. It's just so much easier to get up and cook everything rather than have others bring it in and have to try and warm things up, etc. At one point it was a financial necessity for us to provide it all and we enjoyed it so much we just kept it up since then.
ReplyDeleteLangela, I've been sick all week, but my appetite has been voracious. Today I'm not hungry at all, so I hope I get my appetite back for tomorrow! Wouldn't it be terrible to do all that cooking and not be able to eat?
DeleteYum!! I tend to lean toward a more traditional Thanksgiving meal too Granny (which is just what we had this year), but root beer, ice-cream and bacon doesn't sound so bad either. HA! Little ones just crack me up. Thanks for sharing your recipe.

LOL, Tammy, that's exactly what she ate, too! She's a tiny thing, tall but skinny as a rail, and a picky eater. I baked a pan of bacon the day before, so all I had to do was stick a slice or two in the microwave to warm. She must have eaten at least 6 slices! Oh, she loooooved the rolls (my new favorite recipe), and ate 3 of them that afternoon, and those suckers were huge! She did skip the ice cream, but came over on Friday and ate two bowls of that :-)

They were delicious! They could also be shaped as Parker House or crescent rolls, but they were incredibly simple to shape as Lion House rolls. I did use regular yeast and proofed it in the liquid with a bit of the sugar.
