October 18, 2008: There's a Rabbit in My Oven!!!

My daughter called tonight. She said she'd opened her oven and there was something in there that was gray and hairy, and it looked like a rabbit!

Upon further inspection, she discovered it was the lasagna from the dinner we had together a week and a half ago. She'd forgotten to take it out of the oven.

I let stuff get hairy in my fridge, but never in my oven. I use it way too often for that! :p

  4. ha, thats funny. I do a similar thing with the tea pot, it always makes for an interesting science experiment.

Interesting chili recipe, I make a similar recipe but without coco powder, that's a new one for me. I guess it is not to fare fetch through, chocolate and chili is often mixed in Mexican food. I will have to give it a try.

I have been wanting to try Texas style chili also, the one with out beans in it.

  5. I've never had a "rabbit" in my oven, ever! My refrigerator, yes. And I left a loaf of bread in my bread drawer once, then went to AZ. It was quite nasty when I returned six months later!

  6. We put a cup of sugar in our chili! Don't know why....but it turns out yummy!

We actually had to cook rabbit for the dog for over 6 months. He's allergic to dog food and you can't legally buy venison here. Rabbit STINKS to high heaven when you cook it. You can't get the smell out of the house. YUCK!!!

  7. Ribbit, notice I put sugar in my chili, too. Not a cup, because Mr. H wouldn't stand for that, but as much as I can get away with. In my spaghetti sauce, too! I also put sugar in my fajita sauce. When I make my own dry mix I add sugar to that, if I buy dry mix I add at least a tbsp. of sugar. I like a slight sweetness to most spicy foods.

I hope I never have to cook rabbit for my dogs. We used to eat rabbit, but not since we got a cute little bunny as a pet! I don't think I could eat or cook Cookie's "cousins" ever again! I don't remember it stinking when I cooked it, though. Maybe because I always fried it (it tastes better than chicken!), or maybe because our neighbor raised them and they were always farm fresh. My youngest daughter, the one with the rabbit in her oven (LOL), used to love pureed rabbit liver when she was a little baby. I'd simmer it and put it through the blender with a bit of the broth.

  8. That was too funny. My first good laugh of the day.

p.s. - I've read that rabbit poo makes killer fertilizer.

  9. Cheryl, my rabbit is so stinky I've had to resort to using kitty litter in his pooper box and in the bottom of his cage, so no more bunny poo in the garden :-( I think it's his age, he used to be so good to use his box, now he goes wherever...but at least it's still confined to his cage! But his food (alfalfa pellets) is great as a fertilizer for the greens! I scatter the pellets all around for a dose of non-burning nitrogen.
