Instead of harvest Monday, today it was dentist Monday. We left for Mexico at 8 this morning, and I got into the dentist's office at 10:30, for an 11 o'clock appointment. Unfortunately, the dentist was running late, and I didn't even get in the chair until 12:30! Four hours of prep work for four crowns and a bridge, then temporaries were put in. We didn't get back home until 7 tonight.
I had a slice of toast and a small bowl of applesauce at seven this morning, then nothing until 7:30 tonight....just a bowl of soup, because of a rather tender mouth. I think it's a good time to go on a diet, as my final appointment isn't until a week from Wednesday. I could probably drop five pounds by then!
There will actually be a harvest today. The rabbit is out of greens, so I'll be out cutting lettuce by flashlight tonight. Then I'm heading to bed early....I'm exhausted!
Well, that's about the crappiest diet plan I've heard yet! Dental work is NEVER fun. I've gotta ask, though. Do all these dentists/doctor's speak english, or are you bilingual? And how on earth did you find out about using Mexican health care? I'm not trying to be nosy, just curious...
ReplyDeleteYou can say MYOB!
:D
Oooh, what a long day at the dentist. Feel better!
ReplyDeleteOuch. I have to make a dentist appt with a new dentist soon. I've been putting it off. Luckily I only need cleaning most of the time. I don't remember the last time I needed anything else.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Granny! Just wanted to let you know that I did as you suggested and potted up a few store boughten green onions the other day that still had some nice root on them...they are doing well. Thanks for the great idea. Sorry about your sore mouth hope it feels better today.
ReplyDeleteSue, you may mind my business any time you want, LOL! I would venture to guess about 80% of the retirees living in this area go to Los Algodones for eye exams/glasses, dental work and medications due to the reasonable pricing of those services. The entire town, other than the merchants peddling their wares, is filled with those professions. I don't know about the other dentists, but mine is young, adorable, and from a family of dedicated dentists. She speaks perfect English, although she does communicate with her assistant in Spanish. Her office and waiting rooms are immaculate, even the handles on the drawers are wrapped with a plastic material that is replaced between patients. Her equipment is up to date, using digital imaging instead of the old fashioned x-rays. I get to see everything on the monitor right in front of me. While in the waiting room, I watched Robin Hood, with Russell Crowe & Cate Blanchett, on a large LCD screen, and played on a Blue Ray DVD player. While in the chair, I was treated to an entire live concert by Michael Buble on the monitor, when not looking at my teeth. Cost wise, it's a fraction of what we pay in the states. Dr. Valenzuela charges more than some others there, but her work ethics are worth paying the extra cost. Check out her credentials.....

We get our eye exams and glasses there, too. They were more thorough (and MUCH cheaper) than what we received in the states.

I suppose many will frown at my going out of the country for these services, but just imagine living on Social Security, and interest from your savings has dropped to around 2%. We were self employed, so no big company pensions for us means we live as well as we can on what we have, which is pretty darned good if you know how to (not) spend :-)
Dang, this should have been a blog!
Meems, I'm fine this morning. My mouth was just a bit tender from all the prep work for the crowns.

Daphne, I had to have a partial made several years ago, and I've always hated it (US dentist). Having it replaced with a bridge is so much more comfortable, even this temporary one!
********
Mr. H., much better thank you. When I pot up the onions, I trim the tops back to 2-3". Those tops will die down, and new ones will soon take their place. Potting them puts an end to the slimy ones I used to find in the crisper, when we wouldn't eat an entire bunch of them in time.
Finally getting caught up after vacation! Here I was thinking I wouldn't miss much with your wonky internet, but you have managed to post quite a bit in spite of it! Loved the tour of your town - I must admit I loved the tenement house and it made me giggle but in a "don't want it next door, either" kind of way! Hope your holidays were great!
ReplyDeleteErin, you're back? I do hope you had a wonderful time with your family. I'm having "GNTL" withdrawals....just clicked on you, and I see you blogged. I'm on my way!
ReplyDeleteOuch, dental works sucks to be frank, though I am always thankful to have it available to be done (that is one good thing about the US, no lack of dentists to be found!). I hope your mouth is much better today!!
ReplyDeleteWell, that's a tough way to start the year. Dental work always makes me feel so worn out. And I think you've got a great resource there. I just don't want to move near the border.
ReplyDeleteYou're a trooper.
ReplyDeleteI really don't like the dentist.
Can't wait to see pictures of the lettuce.
Kelly, I'm happy enough with the work done so far....I have a much happier mouth this week than I did last week ;-)
ReplyDelete********
Stefaneener, one more appointment and I'm through. Maybe. Now I'm considering having work done on my crooked lower teeth!
********
ZZ, I dislike going to the dentist, too. The last dental work I had done was not done properly, and I've suffered through it as long as I could. My mouth feels 100% better, even though the bridge is only temporary. I can only imagine how good it will feel with the permanent one.
I didn't take pictures of the lettuce and radishes, because they look exactly like the last two! Maybe I'll put together a salad to photograph this week.
I hope the "dentist" (I get where you're coming from Granny) gave you lots of nice "teeth" and that that the "dental nurses" didn't "extract" anything when you crossed the border with your stash ... of "teeth", of course! Let's face it, you never know who's reading this!
ReplyDeleteThat is a lot of dental work for one day! Holy Moly! It sounds like that is a great option though and probably makes the winter trips down south much more valuable to you.
ReplyDeleteHope everything heals up quickly despite your diet plan idea. ;)
TIG, alas, my Benadryl and Prilosec were "clean". They did, however, pull over the vehicle of a 68 year old man, and remove the car's tires to retrieve the drugs within. One doesn't have to be old to be stupid.

Kitsap, I'm feeling so slim and trim already. It's surprising how much water weight one can drop in 3-4 days! Losing weight is difficult living with Mr. Granny, so I went to town and bought a bunch of Lean Cuisine for my emergency meals!
Oh, what a long day! Glad to hear you are feeling better. I only know of one person that has gone to Mexico for medical treatment, and they went to quacks. Glad to know you are getting good care. Going on a dentist diet doesn't sound very fun to me.
ReplyDelete~~Lori
Lori, the dentist diet has turned into a normal new year resolution diet. The mouth feels fine now, it was just tender for a day.
ReplyDelete- Annie -
ReplyDeleteI guess the reason why I dislike them so much, is because when ever I go it's uncomfortable. But it's really not the dentists fault. I let stuff go for so long, and then when I finally can't take the pain, I go. That's really not a good way to do stuff, but live and learn.
As far as the pictures go, you don't have to take a picture of the lettuce on my account. I'm sure I will catch some more of your beautiful garden another time.
Have a great day!
ZZ, today I cut a salad just for you! I took a photo of the harvested lettuce, not the garden, as I had just cut more than half of it back for the rabbit. It's looking very ragged now, LOL!
ReplyDeleteI'm the same about dentists. I am, however, thinking of having more work done by this one...I'm extremely happy with what she's done so far.
