May 20, 2013 - Granny Junior

Before I pack up the laptop for tomorrow's trip, I must show you the new guardian of the garden.  The sparrows were taking their toll on the greens this morning, so something had to be done!  One broomstick, a nail and a piece of 1"x2", an old shirt, my sweat pants, a panty hose head with Mr. Granny's cap...................Granny Junior!

Can you see her standing out there?

Otto and Annie went crazy when they saw her!  Otto was pretty brave, but Annie did her barking from the protection of the patio.  Otto wouldn't stop barking at her, but see how fast that tail is wagging, LOL!  I can only hope the birds are as scared of her as Annie is.

The new car (it has 14 miles on the odometer already) is packed and ready to go.  The alarm is set for 5:00 a.m.  Granddaughter Alicia is coming over to dog sit with "the kids".  I'm taking the laptop, so if I get bored with all the down time I can always blog, or at least keep up with reading your blogs.  I'm ready for some fun!

    1. Nartaya, I drove the entire 900 mile trip, except for about 150 miles. No close calls, and had a great time.

  2. Oh that is so funny. I never knew scarecrows scared dogs too. Hopefully Granny Junior will take care of your garden well when you are gone.

    1. Daphne, by the time we left the dogs were used to her, but I neglected to tell my granddaughter about Granny Junior. She said she looked out the window and it scared the crap out of her! She thought someone was in my garden, LOL.

  3. That's funny! Hopefully that should do the trick. Either the barking dogs of the Granny Junior will help keep the birds away.LOL!

    1. Rachel, birds were nipping the leaves of the broccoli and cabbage seedlings. Since putting G. Jr. out, there have been no more nips. Fingers are crossed!

  4. There's no way any critters are going to think that's you. It isn't moving and doing more work than most people do in a week.

    Have a great time!

    1. Thanks, Anke. I enjoyed my vacation, even if it was such a short one. I couldn't stand to be away from Annie and Otto any longer than that.

    1. Thanks, Ray. I hit a few, but didn't bring any back with me. Mr. Granny was much luckier, so he covered my loss!

    1. They seem to be, Nancy. I don't know how long they'll be fooled by her, I might have to change her outfit! Maybe change the blue striped shirt for a red plaid.

  8. I need to try this! If there is any chance of something scaring critters away, it probably needs to be near my garden. Just in case!

    1. Granny Junior seems to be keeping the sparrows from consuming the young brassicas, but she's not keeping the squirrel away from my strawberries! I might have to move her over to the middle of the strawberry bed.
