December 3, 2013 - Thank You, Robbie!

Robbie, from Palm Rae Urban Potager, has been kind enough to give me the Very Inspiring Blogger Award!  Thank you, Robbie.  You also inspire me to add color to my vegetable garden by including flowers for the pollinators and for our personal enjoyment.

Upon receiving this award, I'm supposed to tell seven interesting things about myself.  That's been done many times before, so I won't bore you by being too repetitive.   I'm also supposed to list the blogs that have most inspired me.  I've decided my list will not be passed on, as these bloggers that have most inspired me in the past, are no longer blogging.  I miss them all so very much, but they will always be remembered.

They are, with the date of their last post:

Liisa at http://liisasgarden.blogspot.com/ May 10, 2013
Caffeinated Mom at http://thecaffeinatedmomgardens.blogspot.com/ July 19, 2010
Momma_S at http://gardeningwithcare.blogspot.com/ August 6, 2010
Robin at http://cordarogarden.blogspot.com/ August 1, 2013
Ribbit at http://thecorneryard.blogspot.com/  July 29, 2013
EG (Jeff) at http://engineeredgarden.blogspot.com/ (evidently still active for invited readers only, which doesn't include me)

Gosh, I sure do miss them.

  1. Congratulations on your award! I used to read almost all on your list and miss them too. In fact I was recently reminiscing about how things were when I began blogging. A lot of us were active members of the GardenWeb forum then moved on to blogging. We visited, commented, supported, and encouraged each other. Since a lot of us were on Blogger, we "followed" one another. It was exciting and encouraging to see the followers add up in the sidebar. We were inspired by each other and experimented with similar methods of gardening and shared our results. It was fun trying square foot gardening, soil blocks, and self-watering containers. I never tried it, but the potato tower was also very fun watch. It was special and although many are still blogging, the ones who are not are missed.

  2. I miss them too. I'm always so sad when a blogger I love quits writing.

    1. Thank you, Peggi. You are so sweet to say so. I'm not planning on quitting as long as I can still manage to use the keyboard!

  4. It's crazy how many have stopped but wonderful that at least what they wrote and posted is still out there to enjoy. I will peruse over many of these you listed which are new to me. There are several I miss as well. I particularly always enjoyed Robin. Thanks for sharing.

    2. Thanks 1st Man! I've been very busy and haven't had the time to blog. I'm still gardening and preserving though. I guess I better get my act together and start up again!

    3. I guess you'd better, Robin! After four months, we assumed you'd gone over to the "other side" (no-blog land), LOL!

  5. I wanted to recognize some bloggers that I really felt inspired by,but they had not even posted in months....and to see your list of those that "quit" entirely..I can see why you all miss them..they are/were like an old friend that you want to hear from /catch up on what is going on!

    1. Robbie, I really worry about those, like Ed, who just stop with no explanation, and then don't even answer my emails.

    2. That is sad. We do get close to our "over the fence" cyber space buddies...I had one disappear ,too and I don't even know why or where she is now since she has no blog up anywhere. I guess we do need e-mails to keep in touch.

    3. Robbie, I just copied this blog entry and the comments and emailed it to everyone on that list (except Robin, who I know has read it already-luv ya Robin). I hope they all receive it and see how they are missed.

  6. Congratulations, Granny! I've read some of the ex-bloggers on your list. I particularly remember Laura (Kitsap) of course. She was very kind and welcoming when I first started, much like you. I miss her. And then there's EG (Jeff). I never connected with him, but used to browse his blog. Still remember his upturned tomato cage he used to train his squash plants! He always came up with novel ideas like that. Too bad he's no longer active.

    1. Mrs. R., at least we know Laura is doing fine, as she gave a reason for leaving the blogging community, and gave a final goodbye. I knew Robin was just really too busy, but I had to include her anyway, just so she's know how she's been missed.

  7. Hello Granny! So sorry to have been absent for so long, it has been a hectic but good year for us and I truly do hope to post again...once I get my act together:). Thank you for thinking of us. Love your header picture. - Mike

    1. Mike! It's great to hear from you! My, how I've missed you. I had a rather bad tomato season this year, with purchased plants, so I'll be planting those seeds from Mr. H. and Dan again in the spring :-)

Do get your act together and give us the pleasure of another blog post, OK? Hugs.

  8. Congratulations Annie's Granny for the recognition and thank you for the kind words in remembrance of mine (and the other blogs) that has gone quiet. I did choose to leave the Modern Victory Garden site up and accessible so people can read all the old posts if they should desire. I miss it too sometimes, but am enjoying the break from the pressure of keeping it up and interesting. Enough time has gone since I stopped blogging that I am actually toying with the idea of starting a new blog sometime next year - would have a different focus though and may not garner the same interest level my old blog did. All the same, I do miss the writing aspect of blogging. I have too many commitments until after the first of the year to even give it more than passing thought, but perhaps after the new year. Anyway, thank you for the kind words.

  9. Great job as always Granny, I so miss many of the blogers, You were able to keep me updated on Robin and I had Email for Jeff but he has stopped answering the Emails as well now. I may try him one more time and see if he will keep in touch. He did say he nolonger wished to share his life on line and I respect that. Stay well and safe your self. I too use your side bar (and Robins) to follow most blogs.

    1. Frank, I did receive an email from Jeff, as well as a recent photo (he's looking very fit and trim!) and a photo of Jude. Jeff says he's "doing great, and staying healthy".

I also received an email update from Alex (Ribbit). So we've heard from half of the missing; Robin, Jeff, Laura, Mike and Alex.

    2. So happy you have heard from some, especially Jeff. I am glad to know he is ok. I miss him but understand if he doesn't want to share his life online anymore.

    3. Please allow me to echo Rachael's sentiments. Couldn't have said it better myself.
If Jeff sees this: For Christmas, we candied some of my home grown sweet potatoes. They were great! Walmart has a sale on SP bins this week and I'm going to buy more. :)

  10. You deserve recognition Granny because yours is one of the blogs that inspires! I hope your face is healing! I read many of those blogs you listed too before they stopped blogging and miss them too. Learned so much from them even though they never knew how they influenced me.

    1. Thank you, Nutmeg. My face is healing fine. The bruising around my eyes only lasted a couple of days, so now I just have to deal with the cuts on my nose where I tried to embed my glasses! I still have to wear the glasses down on my nose, as having them up on the bridge where they belong is still a bit painful, but at least I'm at the point where I can go out in public without a sack over my head :-)

  11. I particularly miss Robin! She was kind enough to drop me a nice little note when I started blogging again. And she was very kind to reach out when I dropped off the face of the earth. I hope she reads this and know how much we miss her!

  15. I'm a little late to this party, but after reading the comments it's like a homecoming. It's been a long while since I saw Robin, Laura & Mike on the same page - not that the rest of you are chopped liver! I do understand why folks quit blogging, or take a break. It does take time. My blog reading suffers much of the year. I can do more reading this time of the year, until seed starting time at least! It's great to see everyone chiming in here. Of course AG is one of my favorite reads too, even if I don't always leave a comment. :-)
