February 9, 2010: Give Us This Day.....

When I woke up this morning, I thought it was going to be a lovely, warm, sunny day. I had my coffee, then tossed a load of clothes in the washer, and hung them out on the clothesline to dry. Just as I got the last item hung, the clouds covered the sun, and a chilly wind began to blow. So much for my warm, sunny day!

It was, however, a perfect day for bread baking.......

No, I'm not mooning you *grin*. Two batches of bread dough have been mixed up in the food processor, and are rising.

Fresh out of the oven, the cinnamon rolls have been drizzled with a vanilla glaze.

Eight big hot dog buns, four hamburger buns and four giant cinnamon rolls are cooling.

Believe me, there's nothing better than home made hot dog and hamburger buns. Two of these burger buns were eaten tonight, with grilled ground sirloin, fresh picked lettuce and home made pickle relish. The recipe for the buns can be found on my blog, November 29, 2008: Just Biding My Time.

  2. Oh Granny - you "crack" me up! As soon as I saw the thumbnail picture, I was certain you were going to blog about full moon gardening. But you know what? I'll take your bread posts any day! This may be a dumb question - but how do you get your buns so perfect (I'm talking about BREAD here)? Do you have a special pan for the hot dog buns? I haven't used my food processor for dough yet, but my husband surprised me with a bread machine for Christmas. The hole in the middle of a baked loaf is annoying, but it definitely makes making dough a cinch.. Now all of our bread is homemade - but we haven't had hamburgers or hot dogs in a long time because I wasn't sure how to make them!

  3. I had to laugh when I saw the the moon like dough. The breads look so professional and yummy, I would love to have a hot cinnamon bun with tea now, it's cold and windy outside.

  4. It all looks excellent! I bet your place smells great. I'll have to try the hot dog buns, never tried them before. I have a sourdough starter that has been languishing on the counter for 3 days to long... I need to get baking.

  6. Nice buns, Granny! LOL Oh man oh man oh man.... those look scrumptious! I have wheat bread rising in my machine as I type. I just finished dinner, but the smell of the dough combined with your lovely pics are making my tummy grumble!

  7. Granny, that dough in the first picture looks like a butt that needs a tanning bed. Ha! The bread you made from the dough looks perfect, though!

  9. Worked quite late tonight, had a very late, rushed and not very good dinner as a result... then I log on to go blog surfing and relax... and what do I find?! AG is tempting me with fresh baked cinnamon rolls! You do know those are my favorite "not good for you" food items don't you?

(sigh) wish my monitor had smellovision installed. ;D

  10. I want to know how you don't both weigh a thousand pounds. You're always making tasty treats! I plan to bake tomorrow (and run, and grade, and plant. . .)

  13. Oh Granny! Such cute buns :)

It's been a while since I have made bread. I need to make my own rolls more often too. Thanks for the inspiration!

  15. Wow, it's getting too hot in this kitchen for me. ;-)Very inspiring post. I love my bread machine, but I tend to set it on the dough cycle, then bake the bread in a freeform rustic loaf. Eliminates that weird shape with the hole in the bottom. There I go with bottoms again.

  16. LMGWorld, I'm the same. Even when I do use a bread machine, I never bake in it. I don't like the hole in the bottom, and the crust just never turns out the way I like it....it's more hard than crisp.
