February 4, 2012 - The Man Room

I painted Mr. Granny's man room yesterday. It's kind of fun to look back at the changes, although this room really hasn't changed much since my last child flew the nest and gave over her bedroom to her Dad. It's been his room since the 90s.

In the 90s it was a bit girlie, but Mr. Granny didn't seem to mind.

Around 2006 I "manned it up" a bit with the green walls and the removal of the flowered curtains.

Yesterday the walls turned to a medium beige. So far the valance is staying, as it has beige and green stripes that match the chairs and walls. I'm contemplating its removal, and possible replacement with a brown window blind.

For years he's been complaining about the glare of the light through the window as he's trying to watch TV. I don't know why I didn't just rearrange the furniture to get the TV away from in front of that window. That was where the TV cable happened to come in, but it took me about 30 minutes to reroute it to this wall. Much better for TV viewing! Mr. Granny did, however, call me in from the kitchen to tell me the light from the window was reflecting on the TV and making a glare. Sheesh, I had to drop everything to close the blind for him! You'd think he could have done that himself :-(

The next project will be new carpet for this room. I think son John and I can manage to install it ourselves.

  2. Sue, I did it in the AZ place, don't see why I can't do it here! John has the knee kicker and the muscle, I can still cut in a straight line, I think we can do it.

  5. Granny, you are awesome and inspirational in so many ways. You have me looking around my house and wondering how I can improve our home. Love Mr. Granny's Man Cave and love the way he called you in because of the glare on the TV :) Sometimes change is difficult but you make it home.

  8. Jody....yes they do, don't they? LOL!!!!

Thanks, I needed that laugh. Mr. Granny might argue with that, after the way I've been picking on him this week. I'm afraid with the kitchen redo, the man cave painting and (today) doing our taxes, I've been overly tired and rather short with him.

    He'll get over it ;-)

  10. For heaven's sake, DaBearded David, where have you been? I just finally gave up on you about a week ago...did you give up gardening and/or blogging? I drove by your place last fall, but nobody was around. Do drop in for a visit, dear friend!

  12. The room looks good Granny! You should have gotten blinds with a remote control!! Ha....do you think that would work??

  13. I'm so cruel. I'd tell him to do it himself. He loves when my mom comes to visit. She takes care of him.

  14. Robin, I shouldn't even say it, but.....he has a terrible time with the cable remote. When I hear him swearing at it, I have to go to the rescue! LOL, he's always pushing the wrong buttons so it either doesn't change channels or it won't shut off the TV. So in a word, no. A remote wouldn't help :-)

Daphne, after I got through ragging on him for it, I'm sure he wished he's done it himself!

  15. It's fun to see the transformation that room has gone through. Can you come to my house soon? We need to paint several interior rooms and I just hate doing it so am procrastinating.

  16. I'd do that, Kitsap, but as soon as it warms up a bit I have to begin painting the exterior of the house! I'm beginning to worry whether I can work that and a larger garden all in at the same time :-(

  17. Mr. Granny is a lucky man, you have created quite a nice man-cave there!

  18. Erin, he must like it, he seldom comes out ;-) He's hibernating with the Super Bowl today.

  19. Maybe the secret to a long and happy marriage is room retreats (and a spouse who will change the blind for you).

  20. Stefaneener, that's partly it. The other part is having a spouse who stayed loving and true to his wife and family, and worked very hard for many years to support them and give them an easy life. He deserves his time to rest.....

But he can close his own damned blinds.

  22. Meems, when I first started to paint the room, it looked pink! Luckily, once all the green was covered, it just looked like a dark beige :-)

Have fun growing those seeds. Many of them are new varieties for me as well.

  23. Granny I loved the man cave as well! I just checked in on ya! Beautiful new redo for mr granny and his manly cave of hibernation. I love that it always has a plant in it. Looks like a touch of you is always nearby for him. His calling u in...lol...def a request for u to care for him but yeah, blinds=do it yourself. lol I bet tho he chooses his battles. he reminds me of my father who only needed his recliner and a decent tv and mom bringing him his lunch especially made for him out of whatever she was cleaning out of the fridge that day to get it ready for the following week. lol
