August 17, 2009: Monday Harvest

Each week Daphne's Dandelions hosts Monday Harvest. Be sure to visit her blog to see who is harvesting what this week!

Grandson Kevin arranged the vegetables for the picture.

My harvest for the rest of the week was used immediately in the kitchen for canning or meals, and I was just too busy to photograph what I brought in. The finished product can be seen in my post of August 15th.

  1. Aww I thought you might make over 500lbs by this week. Not that 90lbs is slacking or anything. Your weekly poundage beats my yearly one still. One or two more days and you will be there. Will you celebrate when you reach 1/4 ton or will you just collapse under the weight of it all?

  2. Daphne, I already collapsed. I took off yesterday and today and actually got caught up on some housework and laundry.

  3. Your effort really should be applauded! It really is amazing how much your garden is producing. You're one mean veggie growing granny, :-)

  4. Thanks, Dan...now shall we go and celebrate my 500 pound mark that I hit today?

  5. I am stunned. Have you done a square foot/pounds calculation? Or are you too exhausted? Although taking "time off" and filling it with housework and laundry seems. . . well, less than restful, I guess!

  6. Stefaneener, I haven't yet figured out my exact square footage. It's difficult when some things are in buckets and some in bare ground without raised beds. I could take the square feet of the entire garden, including pathways I guess. I mean, I even have things planted in my flower gardens! I think I figured the beds out at right around 400-450 square feet once. That's just over a pound per square foot.

  7. The sheer volume of just the tomatoes alone is astounding! Impressive haul AG!

  8. KitsapFG, my son said he's bringing me some more jars, so I'm not through canning tomatoes just yet. They've slowed a bit though, I only picked 14 pounds of them today ;-)

  9. Just look at that harvest. It's just like here and Mrs Soggy says "oh no, where am I going to put it all" The freezers are full and there's pickles everywhere.
You have such a productive plot Annie, looks like it is still being a good year for you.

  10. This is the time of year that the garden totals really soar. I thought of you the other day when I started digging potatoes.....I thought AG would S#$% if she seen this! :D

  11. Heskie, storage is more of a problem with the frozen products than with the jars. I can always put jars in boxes and slide them under the beds, but once the freezer is full, it's full....nowhere else to go!

Sue, Would it be a happy S#$% or a bad S#$%? Does that mean you got more potatoes than I did (in which case I'm happy) or that you didn't get very many (in which case I'd feel badly)?

  12. You are the best gardener I have ever met...and the hardest working one, too.

  13. LOL-You are a hoot. I guess its a happy S#$%. I have tons of taters, and I thought about you and how you'd probably be happy to see a good harvest (like yours!)
Thanks for your wonderful comments (and a great road trip idea.)

  14. Wow over 500lbs, perhaps it is time to break a champagne bottle over those raised beds!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Uh, Dan....can I maybe sit on the raised bed and drink the champagne?

    ;-)

  16. Yeah that would work but you have to give some to the raised bed gods, ha.
