September 19, 2009: The Adventures of the Little Talking Box

It's been almost a year now since EG, of Our Engineered Garden, sent me a little surprise. It was a lovely jar of pear preserves, packed inside what we now lovingly call "The Little Talking Box". The little box has had quite a journey in these past months, and has now returned home to Alabama, with a jar of strawberry jam from my garden. EG is thinking maybe it would be fun to send Little Talking Box on some more exciting journeys, so I thought this would be a good time to introduce you to the past adventures of the little box. Please click on the links below the pictures to follow its journey from Alabama to Washington to...."Where in the World is EG's Little Traveling Box?".....

The little box comes home

The little box went to Jackpot, Nevada, but he was packed in the back of the Ranger, and I couldn't get to him. Then he went to Las Vegas, but I was too busy driving to get photos. He also visited London Bridge at Lake Havasu City, AZ, and the camera batteries were dead!

It's been a lot of fun, Little Talking Box. I'll miss ya!

  1. Granny, did you add to the comments on the box when you sent it back? That should be part of it. Everyone should have to put their own "stamp" on it.

  2. Ribbit, I did the best I could. You know EG's mouth, one can't get a word in edgewise! I think he left room for three short comments from me. I guess I should have used a marker and written over the tape! I think I did "On the Road Again" and "I'm Goin' Home", but I can't for the life of me remember what else.

  7. This is hilarious! I had no idea we had such similar interests, either! I spent the better part of the 1990's riding the deserts between El Centro, CA and Yuma, AZ...while I miss the all the off-roading and cruising the dunes, I do not miss the time spent repairing our toys and vehicles from all the "fun", lol! Sometimes I wonder where we got all that money to throw at our "toys" and trips to the desert....oh, yeah, that was 'BEFORE KIDS', lol...! great post!

  8. Erin, you and I have probably stood on the same old Plank Road! Did you ever go through the Castle Dome Museum, just north of Yuma? Or shop in Los Algodones, Mexico? I must admit, we did a lot more desert sight seeing BD (Before Dogs), but have taken many trips through rough desert washes and over even rougher desert trails.

  9. I have been to Algodones, and my hubby still gets there every so often when the Navy carries him to ElCentro NAS...his entire family is there in Yuma with exception of a few in Phoenix and Alaska.

  10. Thanks for posting this, Granny. So.....you're saying I talk too much? HeeHee..
For the record, there was enough room left for you to write the following things:

    "Bye Bye Washington State"
    "EG talks funny"
    "I'm goin' home"
    "On the road again"
    "Get a horse"
    "I'm in a jam"
    "Strawberry fields forever"

This was truly a fun story.

  11. Dang, EG...I can't believe I didn't get "Sweet Home Alabama" in there! I think you should send it off to Ribbit next ;-) Or stick a baby gift in it and send it to Shawn Ann!

  12. Hey....that's a good idea! I can load the box up with squashbugs or hornworms (both of which are harmless), and send it to one of them! Thanks, Granny - you rock! Hehe..

  13. EG, maybe you'd better include some girly-gloves and a bottle of sedatives with those critters ;-)

  14. Ok, I'm a lil late with commenting, but needed to anyway!

This is a great journey story. Your blog was one of the first I came across when I started gardening last year, and the Talking Box gave me a small sidestep journey over to EG's page for the first time.

It was also really nice stepping back to read about the house you stayed in along your travels, because I found it quite fascinating.

  15. Momma_S, the adventures with the box were fun, I was happy to revisit them again myself. I'm going to try to sell that property this year. It's getting to be too much of a hassle traveling back and forth.
