4 Minigold & 1 Gartenperle cherry tomatoes (not weighed)
60 oz. bush beans (Contender)
11 oz. beets
21 oz. carrots
9 oz. broccoli
71 oz. lettuce, beet & broccoli greens
59 oz. onions
2 oz. hot peppers
48 oz. potatoes
25 oz. raspberries
14 oz. shallots
9 oz. strawberries
36 oz. zucchini

Total for week: 365 oz. - 22.8125 pounds
Total year to date: 125.9 pounds

I'm looking forward to weighing my Walla Walla sweet onions as soon as the tops are dry enough to cut! This has been a good year for the onions, as I have already exceeded last years total harvest weight. I still have a few more of the Walla Wallas in the ground, although they are small ones, as well as the red onions that have yet to be pulled.

Join in the harvest fun at Daphne's Dandelions!

The family gathered here for an afternoon and evening of food, cards and fireworks. I served a taco/chili bar, with a crockpots filled with taco meat and chili, soft and crisp tortillas, tortilla chips, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes (store bought, unfortunately), salsa (the last two jars from my 2009 garden), a fruit bowl of melons and grapes, bananas, lemon bars, caramel carrot cake, and assorted beverages, from beer to margaritas to iced tea and pop.

While part of the family walked down to the river to watch the fireworks, the rest of us opted to sit in the front yard, wrapped in blankets. This is the first year we've had to wrap up to stay warm through the show. At most, we might need sweaters or sweatshirts, but this year continues to be an unusual one, as far as the weather is concerned.

Mr. Granny, Carol, John, Amy and Alicyn bundled up for the show.

I don't know why anyone would want to go to the river to watch, we have a front row seat from our own front yard!

  1. Granny, See what all of that cool weather and rain has brought you....another great harvest!

We have the same advantage here...we can watch the fireworks from the back porch and deck!

  2. Wow! Those are so nice. We just set off a bunch in our front yard with the neighborhood. We hate fighting the traffic and the kids have just as much fun.

  3. Harvest looks great! We went to the beach with friends for the show, but we too can see the oceanfront fireworks from the front yard - but the kids wanted to see their friends, so off we went!

  4. Now, this is a REAL harvest! Potatoes, beans, raspberries...!!!Congratulations!

  5. Nice. I just love fireworks. You're so lucky not to have to fight with thousands of people and mad crazy traffic to get to see a good fireworks show.

  6. Your Fourth of July taco bar sounds very yummy! Your harvest this week has nice variety to it.

  7. Robin, my harvest should slow a bit, now that I've ripped out most of that lettuce! Not to worry though, there are more seedlings started.

Ribbit, fireworks are illegal in our county, yet right across the river they're not. Of course, my "kid", who is nearly forty, had to pull a few out of his trunk and set them off in our driveway. I'm surprised we aren't all in jail this morning ;-)

Erin, one advantage of walking to the river (it's only about 3 blocks) is being able to see the ground display. For the comfort of home, with food, drink and bathrooms, I'll be happy with the aerials.

Tatayana, it is nice to be harvesting something besides lettuce!

Cheryl, it's also a good excuse to get the entire family together once a year. It's been our tradition for over twenty years now.

Kitsap, it was an easy way to feed everyone over a 7 hour period! The crockpots were left on, and everyone was in charge of making their own tacos, nachos or quesadillas. They started eating at 4, and at least one was munching on a taco as he left at 11! For the first time, the soft tacos won out over crunchy. I have 4 1/2 boxes of crisp taco shells left to 0 packages of tortillas!

  8. Please send some of that cool weather east. We are hot and dry here in Maryland.

  9. Marcia, I think we're going to get ours soon, it's supposed to be 94F by Wednesday!

  10. What a wonderful harvest and it looks like you had a great 4th. I sat in our backyard and watched the fireworks over the river and the kids and hubby walked down to the river by our house to watch them. We didn't need to bundle up though just fought the bugs.

  11. Jeana, I don't know what would be worse, the cold weather or the bugs. I think the bugs. At least we could bundle up, and it wasn't like snowing or anything, LOL!

  12. You did have a ringside seat for the show! No need for covers here last night, it was sweltering hot.

  13. Villager, I'm hoping by next week I'll be complaining about the heat ;-)

  14. What a cornucopia of color. Now there's some good eats!

  15. Heather, there's not enough red. Red tomatoes, that is. :-)

  16. Again Gran, I'm truly impressed by your harvest totals. Those potatoes look awesome.

I see you're still harvesting a ton of lettuce. I wish mine hadn't turned bitter...such a let down...and just when the cukes are coming.

P.S. - You weren't kidding when you said that the Spacemaster cukes are prolific!

Thomas, Blogger is acting up tonight and won't publish your comment.

My lettuce took a turn for the worse this week. I actually kept it too shaded when the weather turned cool again. I've started more seedlings, and still have a bit left to cut though, so knock on wood it will carry me through!

Yep, Spacemaster just keeps on pumping them out! Mine are just getting babies on them, so you are much farther ahead.

  18. Allison at Novice Life, Blogger is losing comments tonight. You said "Stunning", I say "Thank you!" :-)

  19. Granny, I am in awe! Nothing more to be said. I have a question though. When you put all your pics together, what program did you use?

  20. Lori, I use (and love) Irfanview. It's free at irfanview, com. Under the "Image" tab, there is an option to create a panorama image. I create one of (for instance) 3 photos horizontally. Then I create two more of the 3 photo horizontals (9 pics all together), then I make a final one using the three panoramas I just made but doing a vertical panorama. It's easier than I make it sound, LOL!

  21. Granny, your harvest collage reminded me of a seed catalog cover I saw last year. So inspiring, to see all that summertime bounty.

How fantastic for you and your family, to have front-row seats to the fireworks in your front yard! I cannot imagine needing a blanket nowadays -- although your kind wishes for a breath of cool air to blow down here seem to have worked! We got a "cold front" that let us stay below 90 this weekend, so the holiday was much nicer. :D

  22. Meredith, my turn is coming. Triple digits are forecast for later this week.

  23. Granny, are you sure you don't have a secret army of garden helpers at your disposal?? 22+ lbs of harvest in just a week? And you haven't even started harvesting any tomatoes yet. I'm so amazed that you do all this work by yourself. On top of all this, you're one of the more prolific garden bloggers I follow. Plus you have time to read everyone else's blogs (including my wee one) and leave thoughtful comments every time. AND you feed your whole family for the Fourth of July. I want to be just like you when I grow up. :)

  24. Thyme2garden, you always say the nicest things! You make me smile :-D

  25. Hmm my comment still hasn't shown up so I'm guessing it is lost forever. All I wanted to say is that if you are ahead of last year already, what in the world will your totals be like once those massive quantities of tomatoes come in? You will be buried in produce.

  26. Daphne, we have to take into consideration I didn't plant pumpkins this year, which accounted for a lot of weight last year. On the other hand, I had 500 pounds of tomatoes last year, and it stands to reason that will double this year, if not more. I also planted an extra butternut squash this year.

Although I have a lot of tomato plants, they haven't yet set a lot of fruit. It might just be "one of those years".
