What a good first picking of the 8' row of Blue Lake bush beans, a full pound and a half! The first few Fortex pole beans were ready, too. Only four ounces, but that's a start. It was beautiful and cool out this evening, perfect bean picking weather. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate, and with two more wide rows of beans left to pick, I got rained out.
*NOTE: The photo of the double rainbow was taken from my back yard this evening. Click on the links at your own risk. I am NOT responsible for their content. Wink-wink and LOL!.
Wow, look at all those beans! I'm also growing Blue Lake, I hope mine are just as productive!
ReplyDeleteThose beans look so good! Our bush beans are just now getting blooms on and the pole beans... (sigh) well... lets just not talk about them. LOL!
ReplyDeleteI only watched a few minutes of the double rainbow video - my goodness he was excited about that double rainbow! :D
Meems, I was surprised at the amount I got from them. It was some old seed, I don't remember them being that productive when I planted them a couple of years ago. At least they weren't productive enough to buy more seeds of that variety! I guess they showed me :-)

Kitsap, most of my pole beans are just beginning to blossom. There were just a few of the first planting that survived, and those are the ones bearing now. The second planting is quite a ways behind.
You actually lasted a few minutes? You're a very brave woman. I think the song is kind of cute, but the Yosemite man is mad crazy! I had seen that video long ago, and it came to mind the moment I saw the double rainbow :-)
Lots o'beans! Bad jokes, too. Good post, Granny.
ReplyDeleteHooray-bean season has begun. I noticed mine were VERY heavily flowered yesterday. Since I'm about 2-3 weeks behind you on everything, I can now look forward to that.
ReplyDeleteNice beans! I'm heading out for a pick now, and the Limas are just forming pods.
ReplyDeleteLOL! "WHOA, WHOA! Double rainbow..." :) If everyone got as excited as that guy about such things, we would have no more wars! Too funny!
ReplyDeleteWow! How beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe rainbow, too.
I just love Fortex beans. Thinking of writing Ode to Fortex some day soon.
Verification word is resinest. Too close to 'resist' I suppose. Maybe I'll stick to a haiku.
We had that same rainbow in our yard last night, yours must have reached all the way to our place.:) Congrats on the beans.
ReplyDeleteMy beans petered out so long ago I forgot I had planted some..it stayed dry too long..last year I got some from the farmers market and I still have plenty in the jar for this year...just goes to show..may hay while the sun shines :o) Your going to be busy canning with that start.
ReplyDeletePretty double rainbow. I used to see those all the time when I was growing up. It would always rain when it was sunny out in Colorado, but here we get clouds and no sun so I rarely see any rainbows.
ReplyDeleteAnd nice beans too. I think in a week I'll have a lot, but not until then.
Mine are starting to come in too! :) Though I've get to find a green bean variety that produces well for us. I grow only bush varieties...maybe I should try the climbers.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a good bean year, especially compared to last year for us east coasters. I have picked a good 2 pounds already.
ReplyDeleteOh! my, those are gorgeous beans! I have bean harvesting them too!lol!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the comments. I'd love to answer you individually this morning, but I have to go pick some more beans!!
ReplyDeleteMr. H., Did you find that pot of gold? From my vantage point, it looked as though the end of the rainbow was spot on your place in Idaho!
I picked beans this morning and had a bunch of them. Unfortunately, I didn't notice until today that one of the later planted plants was already producing and most of my pick today is too tough to use. What a waste! But now I know and will keep up with them.
ReplyDeleteYour beans look so good. I may have to try other varieties next year.
oh how pretty!
ReplyDeleteNo matter where I go on the Internet, I cannot escape bad puns :)
ReplyDeleteWell Granny, it looks like you've bean busy :) Nice rainbow pic!
ReplyDeleteI only lasted a few seconds listening to that guy!
I have this pack of seeds that have green beans in them, and I just don't know if they are still good. The packet has three Native American ladies on the cover. It says "The Three Sisters", and it also has squash and corn as well.
ReplyDeleteApparently, these three veggies go really well together.
The only thing is, I probably won't be able to plant any of these until October or November. I hope I won't be too late by then.
ZZ, beans corn and squash seeds keep for years. Just keep them until the proper planting time, which I doubt very much would be October or November. I would think, even in sunny California, you would want to plant them in the early spring. Many seeds will keep well for several years. Some, like carrots, lettuce and onions don't keep well. If you put your seed packets in a container with a tight lid, then keep it in the refrigerator or freezer, most seeds can last for a very long time.
ReplyDeleteThose beans look great! About how many would you say you plant to get that big of a harvest?
ReplyDeleteThe rainbows are gorgeous! The video was ridiculous! :)
Megan, I always plant my bush beans in a double row, spacing the beans 4-6" apart and the rows about 6-8" apart. Those came from an 8" row.
ReplyDeleteOkay, Annie. Thank you for the advice. I appreciate it.
ReplyDeletei have a "bean" to pick with ben czajkowski's comment...=)
