August 27, 2012 - House Painting Day 4

I'm feeling it.  The old body is getting stiff and sore.  I did get in about four hours today, Mr. Granny wasn't feeling well so he sat and annoyed me watched me paint.  Every now and then he'd go in the house to watch TV, and I'd accomplish much more listening to music on the iPod instead of trying to carry on a conversation.  After a steady four hours of painting, 8:30 to 12:30, I came in and ate a candy bar, laid down on the bed and slept for four hours!

Daughter Amy called and volunteered her husband to paint the high places for us.  I don't think she trusts us on a ladder, which is funny considering her husband fell off of one last week.  Anyway, Bryan came over and painted the peak on the garage while we were eating dinner, and said he'd come over and do all of the high areas for us.  That will make the job much easier.

Now the entire front and the end of the garage are finished, except for the dark trim on the eaves.

I got a good start on this 50 foot long section this morning, but those bottom three boards need a second coat.  They were the new (primed) boards, and the way the sun was hitting them, with the paint color being the same as the primer color, it was hard to see where I had or hadn't painted.  It's looking a bit spotty!

The window company called and set the dates for installation as September 24 and 25, so we have plenty of time to finish up the painting.

  1. She's looking good. :) V had the house painted up in the last week as well. From a blue to a sage. All that is left is corner/trim work.

    1. Cloud, did V do the painting herself? I've always done all of our painting, but I fear the old body is wearing out now. I just don't get things done so quickly any more!

  2. You're making me feel guilty again with all that painting. Don't know if I could go 4 hours at a stretch, but I might be able to paint for 30 minutes, sleep two hours, repeat. The house is looking good.

    1. Dianefaith, the only thing that keeps me going is knowing this paint job is good for twenty years, which means I'll not have to ever do it again! No way will I be out there painting when i'm 93!

  3. The house is looking very nice now. I have to say. Having a new house has been wonderful. I have to do so little to it. A few things have to be done, but not many.

    1. Daphne, you don't know how many times we have questioned why we didn't just sell and buy a new house. We do like this neighborhood, it's semi rural and everyone around us has dogs that are just annoying with their barking as ours are.

  5. It's looking good, Granny! Just keep thinking of how nice it will be when it's all done. You will sit down for about 30 minutes to admire it and rest and then be off on your next project.

    1. Langela, my next project will surprise you. I'll blog about it, probably on Friday.

  6. Oh sure you've got a month to finish before the windows team shows up - so that means you'll be sitting around right? Right?

    1. That's a nice thought, David. I could use a few days of sitting around!

  7. Everybody is going rennovation-mad at the moment. It's that lull after the gardening storm.

I've got a list of about 127 jobs. I need a 12 month winter, which is pretty much what we've just had!

    1. IG, the problem is, my garden is still storming. No lull here. I'm going to need a 12 month winter just to rest up! You at least ended up with a beautiful new green house, so your summer wasn't a complete loss.

  8. That ladder thing? No one is safe on a ladder.
Difference is that young people bounce and we old folks BREAK. Stay off that ladder if you can.

Seems like everything about your house is beautiful. Very very nice, m'lady.

    1. Barbee, my father was a railroad trestle builder. He built and/or repaired some of the highest trestles around, and I watched him do stunts like running backwards across the bridge with his eyes closed, and bouncing up and down on the end of a plank that was held at one end under the railroad tracks, like one would jump on a diving board. He took a week's vacation to roof our house and, on the first day, fell off the ladder.

  9. Just remember, on the 7th day you're supposed to rest. If God can do it then so can you. ;)

Painting does use a whole different set of muscles than gardening, it's exhausting in it's own way, and you are doing an amazing job.

    1. Anywhere, it won't be the 7th. day, but just wait until you see what I have planned for the 9th. day!
