July 23, 2013 - John Pooped in the Garage!

I'll bet that title got your attention!

Monday evening.....Son John saw my plea for a load of compost, so he pick up a yard of cow poop for me today.  The only place I had to store it, until I can get some of it out in the garden and the rest into the big dump cart, was the garage.  Should I mention Mr. Granny is not very happy with the stench of cow manure permeating the air in and around our new car?  I did leave both garage doors open a few inches.  Hopefully that will keep the smell at least a little bit under control.  Tomorrow, even if it's still 100 degrees outside, I need to start wheelbarrowing a few loads out to the garden!

    1. nBoer, are you laughing at Granny? Yes, sometimes Granny has to do some crazy things :-) This one is almost as bad as the spring that I put all the seedlings in the bed of out pickup and just drove it out to the sunshine each morning, then back into the garage at night. A mobile greenhouse!

  3. It sure did get my attention! Poop in the garage? OMG, Granny, I'm beginning to sympathize with Mr. Granny! :-) But I should really follow suit. Buy poop in bulk from reputable source, I mean, not putting it in the garage. I've always bought packaged cow manure from Home Depot, but I suspect they mostly filled it up with clay.

    1. Mrs. R., it would be a lot easier to have the bags sitting in the garden shed, to be used as needed, but I always felt this stuff was a bit better quality. The price has doubled since 2008, the first year I bought it this way. That makes it about the same as the cheapest bagged stuff at Lowes. I still think we'll eventually end up buying an old pickup, then future poop can stay in it, in the driveway, until I can get it transferred to the beds.

    1. Rachel, it's supposed to get over 100 again today. Supposedly, we're to get some relief from the heat by next weekend, down to the mid-90s. I'm looking forward to the (hopefully) 80s of August.

  5. I figured with your title, that you would have a photo of your son in a lawn chair, exhausted after you put him to work in the garden.

That's some nice looking manure! I'm surprised it smells. It looks like it's composted down. Anyway, I wish John had pooped in my garage.

    1. No, Langela, that would be "John, Pooped in the Garage"! LOL

I wasn't expecting it to stink. It usually just smells like damp earth, but this stuff must have been a bit fresher than usual. It definitely stinks. It's too bad we can't get the pickup into our back yard, it's a lot of poop to cart back with a wheelbarrow.

  6. Ha,ha,ha! We must be related and we must have two patient husbands! Once I brought manure back in a bag in the truck of our car from my Dad's farm! Hope you get that "gold" out to the garden soon! Nancy

  7. Recipe for Freezer Slaw
One med. head cabbage shredded and with one tsp of salt sprinkled over. Let stand one hour.
Mix 2 C sugar, 1/2 C water, 1 Cup white vinegar, 1 tsp celery and 1 tsp mustard seed. Boil one minute and set aside to cool.
Drain cabbage. Add 1 carrot and 1 green pepper finely chopped. Pour dressing over and freeze it. Enjoy! Nancy

  8. Oh I knew just what the title meant right away, but it did make me laugh. I hope you are out doing that moving right now as I see it is 73 right now. I usually do my heavy work early in the morning when it is hot out.

    1. That was the plan this morning, Daphne. Then I noticed the beans needed to be picked. Then the dogs were begging to be fed. Then my stomach was begging to be fed. So now it's 9:15 and 78 degrees, and I need to get back out there.....quick! Mr. Granny did cover it with a tarp, so the aroma in the garage is not quite so strong.
