Tomato season has finally arrived at Granny's house.
Since I planted only determinate varieties this year, other than the cherry tomatoes, I'm not expecting to get a huge harvest. But it sure is nice to finally see some vine ripened globes of goodness on my kitchen windowsill! Mr. Granny has requested tacos.
So nice to see some ripe tomatoes. It will be a while until my paste tomatoes turn red. Tacos sound good.
ReplyDeleteYes, tacos sound good. The last time I made them and had to use store bought tomatoes, they were horrid! I swore there would be no tacos in this house until the garden tomatoes were ripe.
DeleteCongratulations Granny!! It's just starting here too!
ReplyDeleteYay, Robin! They're what makes all the hard work worth it. Unfortunately, my "disease resistant" tomato plants are beginning to show signs of disease. I'm hoping some selective pruning will get them through the season.
DeleteCongrats. It is the day all gardeners live for!
ReplyDelete:)
Oh, Sue, I feel so bad for you! I'm sorry Mother Nature was such a beyotch this year. Let's hope you at least get some potatoes out of it. I wish you lived close, I'd share. Well, I'd share everything but the carrots ;-)
DeleteLOL--you're so sweet I just know you'd share those too!
DeleteLucky you! Nothing for me except some cherry tomatoes! Enjoy! Nancy
ReplyDeleteThose cherry tomatoes are awfully good, Nancy. I eat them as fast as I can pick them! They don't fit too well on a BLT though, LOL!
DeleteThose are real purty!! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteYes they are, Ray, yes they are. I will enjoy!
DeleteMine have been coming in, too. The first couple I brought in on Sunday were washed, sliced, and eaten right away. By me. And ooohhhh the sweet deliciousness! Summer heaven! Yours look so perfect and pretty. And tacos sound good. I may have to make those tonight, too.
ReplyDeleteLangela, Mr. Granny is on his way to the store for taco shells as we speak. No, I don't make my own! He likes the crispy ones from a box.
DeleteI am going to take my laptop outside to show that photo to my green tomatoes, just to give them some idea of what they are supposed to be aiming for. Enjoy those tacos!
ReplyDeleteLOL, I hope the laptop photos work for you! It took a couple of weeks of intolerably (for me) warm weather for mine to begin ripening. I thought they were rather late, but checking back on old blog entries, I see they are right on time.
DeleteThat's a LOT of BLT and Tacos! Very tasty looking BLT and Tacos! I started mine earlier, but looks like they be the same time regardless. Hopefully soon in my zone 5/6. Perhaps if I went out and got some taco shells they feel they have a purpose :-P
ReplyDeletenBoer, show them those taco shells and threaten to replace them with store bought tomatoes. That should do the trick, LOL!
DeleteTacos is a great usage of the tomato. :) Is the last tomato a double-connected sort?
ReplyDeleteNope, it's a little tomato in front of the larger tomato. I didn't want to get out a whole new paper towel to set one little tomato on, and I wasn't hungry enough to eat it :-)
DeleteI did dig up a double connected potato though.
No toms for me this year. Grrr. Living vicariously through you.
ReplyDeleteMmmmm....I'm eating a gigantic taco salad with garden tomatoes and a side of just-picked corn on the cob. I took a few bites for you. Can ya taste it, Ribbit?
DeleteWe are still a few weeks away so I'm jealous! But when it happens it is the most wonderful time of the year!! Our first tomatoes always go on a grilled cheese sandwich with a little bacon!! White bread and grilled in butter. Totally not healthy but oh so good!!
ReplyDeleteWe had our first two on tacos last night, and we just had a third on BLTs for lunch! Like you said, not so healthy, but oh so good :-)
