August 20, 2009: Time Out

The garden really slowed down in production this week. Whew! I even had time to make my bed this morning........

Uh......

I kind of made my bed this morning.

I did go out and pick enough sweet red bell peppers to fill a gallon bag for the freezer. Fajitas for all!

  1. HA I raised an eyebrow at the shape of your bed but had a much needed laugh at the cause! They are just adorable!! I one day would love to have a scottie-dog (scottish terrier) but your blog is fast changing my mind to a sausage dog hehe! Love it!!

  2. Marrissa, I had my heart set on a Golden Lab puppy, but Mr. H talked me into a doxie. I insisted I wanted a little girl, and I wanted to name her Annie, Mr. H wanted a boy named Otto. So we bought two puppies, a brother and sister, and have never regretted that decision. They are fun, funny and so lovable. My bed really does look like that every morning, unless I shut them out of the bedroom! They love to play hide and seek with me, under the covers! Right now, they are both under my desk, at my feet, sound asleep. Sweet babies :-)

  3. lol how cheeky! They are so sweet =) My auntie has 2 dachshunds aswell, a mum and daughter who also love a comfy bed and sleep with her every night. I love it that Otto and Annie are different colours. You sure got the best of both worlds xo

  4. Oh, they are dear. I remember laughing making a bed with cats running around as I fluffed the sheets. We still have one who would sleep under our knees if we'd only sleep making a "kitty tent." Your pictures are showing me some of the virtues of smaller dogs!

I'd love to send you some seeds -- why don't you email me your address?

  5. That is funny. My daughters cat, Bobby, likes to be made up in the bed, too. He likes being under the fitted sheet.

  6. Well at least you have time to breath with your garden slowing down. I'm thinking your slowed down garden is still faster than mine. And I noticed that you surpassed the 1/4 ton mark. Congrats.

  7. Granny, how DO you keep that bed so nice and white? My Aussies would track paw prints all over it!

  8. The pups are a delight! I need to switch the linens over to the medium weight fall comforter (in a duvet cover). We have the ultra light weight summer version currently on but I think we are unlikely to experience any more "heat waves" this season and in fact will be wanting a little more warmth as the fall approaches. The red peppers look beautiful and will be a great addition to your freezer inventory. I like to do the same thing but I usually end up dicing them up. Typically, I keep big bags of diced onions, diced celery, and diced peppers in the freezer - the holy trinity of cooking!

  9. Well, at least you'll get a break from all that hard work. My new plantings are starting to produce, and everything is still doing well. One of my pumpkins is completely orange now, and I don't know when to pick it. Any ideas?

  10. Dot, it looks like most Dachshunds like to tunnel their way under the covers. Otto always heads straight for my feet, while Annie likes to keep my back warm. Annie looks just like her mother. We found out her name is Lady Ann after I named Annie, and that Otto's grandfather was also named Otto, so that was a rather pleasant coincidence!

MissyM, making my bed is impossible if I don't shut the pups out of the room. To them it's a game.

Daphne, thanks. I'm at the point where I want to rip things out, because I just do not want more pickles or relish or chili sauce! I even gave my neighbor all the cucumbers this morning, without weighing them.

Erin, I use all white so I can see the paw prints or, as is often the case with Otto, who loves to eat his blanket, the barfs. If I flip the quilt over to the colored side, who knows what I'd be sleeping with!

KitsapFG, I only have to use a seet and a light quilt, both here and in AZ. The thing I miss, since getting my dogs, is using the completely hand stitched quilt she made over 70 years ago. I hate having it stored away. You can see it in this photo, with my rabbit, Cookie

EG, I picked my first one too early, but it still tasted just fine in the pies. It should be orange, of course, it should sound hollow when thudded (like a watermelon) and if you try to put your thumbnail into it, it shouldn't break the surface. I'm about ready to pick my next one.

  12. Wow that quilt is gorgeous! (bunny is sweet too!)

  13. KitsapFG, every tiny stitch in that entire quilt is by hand. Can you even imagine putting that much work into something? I have two of her quilts that are completely hand quilted, but that starburst pattern is my favorite.
