See, Amy T., it's a long way from garden to clothesline!
Guess what appeared in "Tomato Alley" yesterday........
Yes, that's the first blossom on my tomato plants! Victor is the winner in the early blossoming contest this year, taking over the title previously held by Bloody Butcher.
I don't know if that's Annie or Otto in the pic. But, whoever is thinking "I can't believe that she has "those" hanging on the line...how embarrassing"!
ReplyDeleteNo, Robin. Otto is thinking "Now where am I going to poop?" That was his second favorite spot. His first favorite is right off the patio entry, he wants to make sure I don't miss it.
DeleteI was thinking Otto was dejected because he couldn't get into the garden. I'm sure to a dog the other side of the garden fence is much more smelly (which for a dog is a good thing). My dog loved all the weird fertilizers I'd put on it. She really liked licking up bone meal.
ReplyDeleteOtto and Annie have both discovered dead worms in the lawn after a rain or sprinkling. I don't know how they can smell something that small, but they manage to find and roll in them. They come in smelling like a dirty old tackle box! At least they can't get to the compost now. That was disgusting, some of the stuff they would drag in.
DeleteHi Annie, Your new clothes line is very nice! And I see one of your dogs is guarding your garden! lol When I first saw your title I thought maybe you weren't feeling well. Glad that is not the case. Nancy at Cozy Thyme Cottage
ReplyDeleteLOL, Nancy, I'm feeling fine....for an old woman! Do you find your muscles ache more easily with age? Mine sure do!
DeleteHeee.
ReplyDeleteWe are wilting in unaccustomed heat, and the tomatoes are blossoming. Both Early Girl and Sungold are blooming. Just keeping things watered is a pain. I'm glad you have your new laundry line. AGh -- I'm not sure if I'd rather Taz rolled in worms or EATS THEM as she does.
Stefaneener, does Taz sleep in your bed? Annie and Otto sleep on mine, and believe me...I'd rather they eat them than roll in them! I've taken to using a fabric softener sheet on them every night, they love the rub down, I love the aroma of softener over the stink of worms.
DeleteShe sleeps on and then in the wee hours migrates to the PILLOW where she rolls up in a ball on Eric's head. Mikey pins my ankles to the bed. We downgraded sizes and it's not big enough for the dogs and people. During hotter weather they spend some time on the floor.
DeleteThe worm smell is nasty-sounding. Although I'm not sure about softener -- that cracks me up. Both of our furry dogs need baths pretty badly, but Taz fears the hose. So it's either to the store or in the tub. Sigh. Big dogs were a BAD idea.
Stefaneener, that is soooo funny :-D My dogs are quite small, but I have a king sized bed and they still manage to keep me right on the very edge of it. They love to cuddle, so how can I not let them? As it warms up, they do usually move farther away from me. The dryer sheets work great a temporary end to the odor problem. My dogs hate the water, unless it's in their drinking bowl!
DeleteYour clothes line brings back a lot of memories. I used to love it when it was windy and would start to spin!
ReplyDelete'Victor' tomato is the winner. It must have been the source of the seed! LOL!!!
Ed, I have (not so) fond memories of chasing a line around and around in a windstorm, while trying to hang up the sheets! That was in AZ, where I didn't have a clothes dryer. Laundry got hung out no matter what the weather....except rain, then it got hung in the bathroom.
DeleteWell, duh! Of course it was the source of the seed! Bloody Butcher is coming on strong though. I have a feeling they will be really close competitors this year.
Wow, I feel like a really dippy rock star being mentinoed in your blog!
ReplyDeleteAlas...you cannot shade your summer lettuce with your skivvies!! ;) I guess it's back to row covers!
Rock on, Amy T.!
ReplyDeleteI have not used our clothesline since the lawn mower stopped working; I hate the feel of grass above my toes! Our tomatoes are about the size of golf balls; Early Girl and Better Boy are neck and neck.
ReplyDeleteMy husband cannot imagine why anyone would want a clothesline. I can't imagine why everyone doesn't want one!
DeleteI shouldn't even set my tomato plants out until May 10, but I can never wait that long.
I'm jealous you are hanging out laundry, we have too much pollen flying here still :(
ReplyDeleteErin, although the weather man sometimes says our pollen count is high, it's not really noticeable...not like what you get!
DeleteYour garden is so big this year! All those roots and sod pulled up! Makes me tired just reading about it!
ReplyDeleteDavid, it's not a lot more work, except for the Bermuda grass. I try to keep it dug out, but it's everywhere that we used the tiller. Once the squash begins covering the sprouts, I'm afraid it will get out of control.
DeleteI love your new closeline! clothes smell so fresh after being on the sun and you don't have to worry about static sheets :)
ReplyDeleteJenny, even the dresser drawers smell fresh when you open them after putting away clothesline dried undies! A clothesline is the only thing that makes me actually want to wash sheets ;-)
DeleteHi!!! Sending you hugs from northern Wyoming where the gardening season is just beginning!!!
ReplyDeleteMy friend Peg lives in Anacortes Washington... I'm so jealous! She gets to garden year round!
Good to hear from you Toni! Your friend lives way on the other side of the state from me. That's like a different country altogether, as far as climate goes! I'm in the treeless, rainless, desert part of WA.
