January 26, 2103 - Old Woman!

I woke up this morning, stumbled into the bathroom and looked in the mirror.

An old woman stared back at me.

Oh, OK.  It wasn't quite that bad, but I did turn 74 today!

    1. Awww, thank you, Jenni! Hey, those critters always have great days with Granny. They're spoiled and lazy, and just now getting out of the nice warm bed.

  2. Happy Birthday! You take that photo down right now LOL.... you are gorgeous and you keep us all young - I don't get HALF as much done as you do in that garden every year, you are a true inspiration!

    1. Erin, I wonder how many people will think that's actually my picture, LOL! When I first saw it, I sent it to Robin as "my latest photo". She came right back with "Love your new hairdo".

    1. Thank you, Gail. Luckily, I don't feel that old, so I might just have a few more birthdays left in me :-)

  4. Happy Birthday Granny! And best wishes for many more.

You are without a doubt the most energetic and productive 74 year olds I know. I'm 20 years younger than you, but you leave me in the dust in the garden. I'm trying to catch up to you!

  6. Happy Birthday Granny! I hope you have some special plans to celebrate! I can only aspire to being as energetic as you when I'm 74. I've been working lately on embracing my age, which for me means no longer coloring my hair. The two-tone look of gray roots and blonde ends is bugging me.

    1. Alison, Mr. Granny bugs me to color my hair, but I stopped probably 3-4 years ago. Mine was naturally blonde, so I'd do a light ash blonde color that would turn to bright yellow out in the sun. Being a gardening fanatic, I was always out in the sun! I just got tired of dealing with it, so went au natural. Little granddaughter is bringing me a cupcake with candle today (in place of a full cake, I'm in the middle of my yearly quest to lose a few pounds, down 12 but still have 6 to go). I bought myself a stationary bike for my birthday, so now I have no excuse to not exercise in bad weather. Tomorrow Mr. Granny and I are going to run away for a day of play and dinner (hopefully a light one) out.

  8. Aaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Happy Birthday Granny! I hope I'm still out gardening like you at 74. I so hope. My mom who is 76 gave it up years ago. Well she still has her greenhouse, but no outside gardening.

  16. Well, happy birthday Annie's granny!! I've been reading your blog since I stumbled upon your bottomless tomato bucket method over a year ago. I used your method last spring and had tomatoes all year long, practically. Wonderful advise there.
I'm exactly one decade behind you in birthdays, but I'm already seeing that old lady in my mirror, too. I just ignore her and carry on!
Hope you had a great day!

    1. Thank you, Pat! I'm happy to hear you had good luck with the buckets. I've had a lot of problems with tomato blight/wilt when I plant directly into this soil, so the buckets have served me well. I'm going to try some both ways this year, and maybe I'll get lucky. I'll plant resistant varieties in the ground, and stick to the buckets with the others.
