July 22, 2013 - R.I.P. Big Dog

April 2013:  I don't even know his name.  I just call him "Big Dog", but he is completely deaf so it doesn't make any difference what I call him.  He's a rescue dog, very old, and my neighbor said he's not only deaf, but also blind.  I beg to differ.  He can definitely see, because he waits at that fence and watches for me every day.  When he sees me in the yard, the tail wags......

And he starts licking his chops.  Because I bake him cookies and give him daily treats.  He's been terribly abused (by a previous owner), and he's so thin and crippled he can hardly walk.  He is a love, and he deserves to be loved.

Every time I head out to the garden, Big Dog is at the fence waiting for me to bring him his cookies!

When I began baking cookies for Big Dog, I should have known his whole family would soon show up for dinner!

They had the vet come to the house to put him into his final sleep.
R.I.P. Big Dog, I'll miss you!

  1. Oh dear. He looked like such a good soul, his story breaks my heart. At least for a short while he found a home that was good.. and a neighbor who had a similar heart of gold. Poor dear.

  3. Hey Annie,

I stop by on occasion. This post just breaks my heart. Thank you so much for rescuing him. It looks like he lived the last few months in glory, just by you being nice to him & giving him treats. What a wonderful person you must be.

  4. Sad to read, Annie's Granny. But I'm glad you brought him something to look forward to so late in his life. Bless you for caring about him!

He had a happy life in his later years and you only added to his happiness.

  9. This post brought tears to my eyes...we have 3 dogs, and they are all rescue dogs. My oldest is 12 1/2 years old and the other day I was afraid we would have to put her to sleep. We tried some new medicine for her pain management, and she is doing great again. I know it is around the corner, but this story just made me tear up and I had to share----you are so sweet to give that dog a cookie and be so kind....We lost an older dog the year my youngest son went to college( that was in 2009 and It is still hard--animals love us so unconditionally!)...the pictures were perfect especially the ones with his friends..robbie
