August 7, 2013 - Goodbye, Laura

Our friend Laura (Kitsap FG), at The Modern Victory Garden, has said goodbye after nearly five years of beautiful, informative blogging.  Kitsap is one of the few fellow bloggers that I've actually met in person, having had lunch with her one day in May of 2011.  Just as nice in person as she was on her blog, she will certainly be missed.

    1. Yes she will. I see she doesn't have comments enabled, so we can't go en masse and bombard her with pleas to continue. :-(

    2. Yeah so I sent her an email. Though I didn't tell her to continue. I think giving up blogging can be a hard but necessary choice for some people. But don't you get any ideas.

  2. Oh No! I read her blog religiously, and use it to figure out when to start my seeds here, as well as to get tips on good varieties. I wonder if she is going to keep her blog up on the web for reference. I will surely miss her blog, but I understand how enthusiasm for blogging wanes.

    1. Alison, I feel like quitting at times. That usually lasts for a day or two ;-)

I don't know if she'll leave it up or not. This morning I was looking for a recipe I'd linked to her, and it was no longer there.

  3. Ah, well. I noticed that. It stinks. Love her planting jig tutorial. I'm still trying to get hubby to make me one. Guess I'll have to just make my own before I forget the details! KFG will certainly be missed. :-( Bye Laura, I hope to see you around the bloggosphere, and I'm sure that I will. I know you can't resist hanging out with all of us. ;-)

  4. I read this on Laura's blog this morning and wanted to comment to at least say good bye but couldn't. I think I will post a good-bye on my blog as well. Laura has been a huge influence on how I garden.

  5. I'm so sad. I feel like I was just getting to know her. She was one of the first bloggers to welcome me with her kind words of encouragement, along with you, Granny. I wish there's a way for me to tell her how much it meant to me. If you ever run into her, please thank her for me. I hope she'll start a new blog sometime. I'd love to read her writing.

  8. I think the blogosphere just ate my first response. ;( I will try this again and if it is duplicate... my apologies.

Thank you everyone for the heartwarming send off. It was a hard decision but the right one. I just am not putting the same level of effort and passion into the blogging as I used to and it feels tired and repetitive to me. It was time to step away for a while. I may start another blog in the future but it will likely have a different focus to it than the Modern Victory Garden. I do intend to keep this site up and available for reading though. Just turned off the comments so I do not have to worry about spamming etc in the absence of daily attention. Again, thank you for the support and I will be visiting your sites periodically to keep up on what you are all up to in your gardens - just because I am not writing about it... does not mean I am not gardening away.

    1. Blogger didn't eat the other two responses, LOL, but I removed them for you.

I don't think others found your blog tired and repetitive at all, but I totally understand how you felt....someday, I too will get a life!

You were loved by many, and will be missed by all.

  9. I wondered why I was seeing a red X on her blog in my blog list in the editor. I will definitely miss Laura and reading her blog. She was always kind and helpful to me, but I could sense she was being stretched with work and life.
