January 14, 2011 - Just a Note

I recently cleaned out the desk drawers, and happened upon a box of old note cards. They aren't something I bought, and I can't remember where they came from. I'm assuming they were in this place (the Arizona home) when we bought it, and I stashed them in the drawer. I have no idea how old they are, but I'm guessing they might possibly date back to the 1940s or 50s. I found a few vintage Brownie cards on line, but none like these. I thought they would be appropriate for a gardening blog. You can click on them to enlarge. Enjoy!

  1. I just love old cards. How appropriate that they were left in the house for YOU!

  2. These cards are wonderful. I'm so glad you stashed them in the drawer and not the garbage. Some things like gardening never go out of style.

  4. What a marvelous find! Nothing like what you might find at a Hallmark store today (and that's a good thing)!

  5. Golly you have neater things in your drawers than I do. I usually have pens that don't write and multicolored paper clips.
    Pretty cards.

  6. These are wonderful-I love the illustrations on them. Very cheerful. I echo "The Mom"--I miss snail mail too. Don't get me wrong, email is great, the internet is wonderful, but oh, to get a beautiful card--what a treat!

  9. Robin & Char, I think they're kind of cute, but I'm trying to get rid of stuff, not collect more! Maybe I could mat and frame the four different ones, and hang them in my garden shed ;-)

Toodie, I have a lot of those, too!

The Mom & Sue, I don't miss snail mail at all! Don't get me wrong, I love to receive but hate to send. I'm an "I want it done right now" type, and email fits that to a T. The last two cards I sent my daughter took more than 10 days to travel 1200 miles. Ridiculous!

Alison, the price of those Hallmark cards put me into shock. I'd rather spend that extra five bucks on the gift, and just scribble a greeting on the package, LOL!

Kelly, I've decided I like the last one the best.

Mr. H, I never even got inside the casino on my last two trips to Mexico! On Jan. 3rd, I was in the dentist chair for so long, we had to head straight home. The dogs were left at home alone, and it was already dark when we got back. We have coyotes here that might find them to be tasty little morsels. Last Wednesday the casino was so crowded they were directing traffic out front, so we opted not to fight it. I hope we can spend a couple hours there when we go back Monday. My earlier winnings are still burning a hole in my pocket ;-)

  10. I LOVE those cards. They would look lovely framed and hung in a kitchen or mudroom!

  11. Those are so sweet! I think I like the last one best. They remind me quite a bit of my mom's earlier paintings. Someday I'll have to take some pics and show them off on the blog! :)

    Hugs,
    Wendy
