May 17, 2013 - Guess What.....

.....we bought today.

The dealer didn't have this color in stock, but he located one nearby so we take delivery on Monday.  There's only one problem.  Mr. Granny isn't going to let me haul manure in it.

We had been talking new car for some time.  Mainly due to Consumer Reports, we had narrowed our choices down to a Subaru Impreza Premium, Hyundai Elantra GLS, Mazda3 i Touring or a Chevrolet Cruz Eco.  We haven't been extremely happy with our present Chevy Malibu, and the Cruz had a so-so rating for fuel economy, so we scratched it off the list and headed for the Subaru/Mazda dealer.  We wandered around the lot, looking at the various new cars, while two salesmen watched us out the window but never made a move to come out to help us, so we decided to head for the Hyundai dealer's instead.  We ended up buying the Hyundai Elantra GLS on the spot, so Subaru/Mazda may have lost a sale today.

What was so funny, and made me lean toward the Hyundai, besides the best warranty of the bunch, happened as I was loading my groceries into the trunk at the store yesterday.  A lady parked next to me in her 2013 Hyundai, the Indigo Night color sparkling in the sunshine.  As she got out of her car, I approached her and asked how she liked it.  She loves her Elantra!  From the way it rides, to the way it drives, to the heated seats......she just couldn't have been happier with her automobile!

I had originally wanted, actually had my heart set on, red.  Unfortunately, red only comes with tan upholstery (it's more camel colored than tan), and we didn't care for it at all.  We much preferred the black or gray interior.  Indigo Night comes with dark gray, so blue won out over red.

Anyway, we will pick up our new car at the dealer's on Monday, and we're heading out of town on a short vacation on Tuesday, so it will get a good highway tryout.

  1. How pretty-congrats! And the color is gorgeous.
We have 2 neighbors with Hyundais and both of them love em. (the one fella we call SUPER Genius-he researches the heck outta everything and he has had 2 in a row, so they MUST be the best!)
I'm so happy for you. Best of luck with the new baby!

    1. Sue, daughter drives a Santa Fe, and she really likes it. I hope we're happy with the Elantra, because it's the last car we're ever planning on buying (except maybe a beat up old pickup for that manure). That's why we decided to go brand new instead of lightly used.

Your garden looks so neat! I think this is the first time I've ever seen a photo of the entire garden, I didn't realize it was so large! I see you are growing spinach, so keep your paws off of mine, Girl. ;-)

    2. An ex of mine (8 years back) had an elantra. It was a nice car.

    3. Cloud, we have former neighbors who lease their cars, and get a new Elantra every two years. I think they've been doing that since the Elantra was first available. They wouldn't have anything else. I'm not much of a car person, myself. If it's driveable, comfortable and trustworthy, I'm fine with it. I was in love with our 1999 Chrysler Intrepid (it went to our son, who totaled it), so was never that happy with the Malibu that replaced it.

  2. My husband loves his headed seats too. Well maybe not now when it is almost summer, but in the winter they are very nice.

    1. OK, Daphne, I'm not going to make a smart remark about your husband's "headed seats", but the typo did give me a good laugh and a vision of seats with heads! The heated seats were not on my wish list of options, but they came with the package. It also has a remote start that I'll probably never (or forget to) use. My main requirements were steering wheel volume and cruise controls, and USB and auxiliary input jacks for my music.

    2. Ah, yes, the heated seats ... You'll be glad you have them, Granny, come winter. Congratulations on the new car!

    3. Ditto on the heated seats. It doesn't even get outrageously cold here (not as cold as your part of the world of course) and my last car had them as part of the 'package' I wanted. I thought, pfttt, I'll never need those. I'm hear to tell you they will always be on my short list of options on future cars, ha. You'll love 'em. Or should I say, your butt will love them.

      The car if beautiful. Enjoy!

      And NO MANURE.

  3. Fancy. Good thing you got the cruise control... Don't need them putting you away due to excessive speeding tickets. ;-)

    1. Cloud, I am a fast driver, I admit. Neighbor asked if we were going to fly or drive to Nevada next week, and I told her we were flying....because I'm doing the driving! Odd thing is (knock on wood), I've never had a ticket, and I've been driving for 60 years. Husband has had several in past years, but now he drives like an old fart (sloooow), so I do most of the driving.

    2. HAHAHA. Thank you, Carol. I needed a good laugh. We have been sitting around in Limbo as our season is basically done, however, they are holding us around still yet in case of clean up work. I've a mountain estate to build!! PS. When I am flying the Cessna, there have been many times when the winds are so strong that those on the freeways move a lot quicker than I. I suspect that you are one of those very low flying planes... ;) It is nice to be validated. hah

  4. Annie,

Remote start is such a blessing here in hot as blazes Florida, especially in July & August. After work, after vehicle has been sitting on hot asphalt pavement all day, I crank it up as I walk across the parking lot. Probably from a distance of 50 yards or so. It cranks up the air condition (or heat) depending on the outside temperature. For me, that means it is actually tolerable to get in the drivers seat without scorching my underside. I rarely get the chance to use the heated seats but on the couple of times I wanted to warm the vehicle up before leaving for work, was just lovely & toasty. Try it, you just might like it.

    1. DFW, I never even thought about using it during the heat of summer! Yes, many times, after leaving my car in a hot parking lot, I've been unable to hold onto a hot steering wheel, and the seat has burned my bottom. I was thinking more about how our car is always in the garage, so it's quite comfortable when I get in to drive it, and I wouldn't want it running with the garage door shut!

  5. I always thought the tan upholstery was pretty until we had it in our Lincoln. I just gets so dirty-looking so quickly. And with three kids it always looked like I needed to wash the seats (they were leather). Enjoy your pretty car!

    1. Langela, with cloth seats, and a black dog that mega-sheds, tan would never do! We didn't go for leather, because I'm afraid our dogs toenails would scratch it.

  8. Here in TX you would never want black, or dark interior upholstery....talk about HEATED seats!

    1. Barbee,it can get really hot here in Eastern WA too, but we keep our car garaged and hardly ever drive it :-) Our dogs usually go with us when we do, and Annie sheds black hair all over the car (Otto, her brother, doesn't seem to shed at all), so black or dark gray is more practical for us. Tinted windows are a must, though, it does help with the heat factor.
