I'm still getting red Romaine, onions and radishes. I also picked two tomatoes this week, and have three more ripening.
My potted tomato plants look really bad, I don't think they will survive much longer. Each day, I pick off leaves that are crisp and dry. The soil is moist, but not too moist, I use a moisture meter to check on it. I gave them liquid fertilizer this week, but there has been no improvement. It's not affecting the fruit, so I'll just harvest tomatoes as long as they continue to ripen.
Nice harvest! Love the red romaine leaves. So pretty.
ReplyDeleteWell, if the tomatoes expire on you ... that is one less thing to move when you head back north and they certainly have been providing you with some fresh salad fixins in the meantime. Hopefully they will hang in there for a while longer so you get more ripe tomatoes though.
ReplyDeleteThe red romaine looks beautiful.
The radishes look so pretty. I might regret only having long radishes this year because nothing is prettier than the little balls of red.
ReplyDeleteFashionably late to the party. :) I was a no show this week.
ReplyDeleteYou you said you couldn't grow radish! Rubbish. Those look perfect! I love the look of that lettuce. How is it tasting? I'm afraid that mine might have turned too bitter to eat.
Your Romain is beautiful I can't wait until spring so that I might grow some of my own again. The red has always been my favorite and one of the more hardy lettuces in our fall garden.
ReplyDeleteIt all looks great.:)
Rachel, thank you. Even though I complain about tiny harvests, Mr. H is bragging to the neighbors about his fresh salads through December and January.

Kitsap, I'll get at least three more tomatoes in the next few days. They are getting smaller and smaller though, large cherry tomato size now.

Daphne, the red ones are the only ones growing semi-well for me. Cherry Belle and Champion. Sparkler, with the white tip, is the one that gets attacked by root maggots. Maybe they're drawing them away from the carrots though.

Thomas, those radishes are nothing to write home about. The flavor is great, but I'm pulling as many with no round roots as I am edible ones. The rabbit loves the tops though, so they don't go to waste. I have to get them pulled to make room for the lettuce and carrots. The carrots I'll probably be leaving for the neighbors to enjoy :-(

Mr. H., I love the red Romaine best of all for its color. The colder the weather, the deeper the color. Mine is turning greener now, as our weather is warming. It has begun to get a bit bitter, so I'm anxious for the new lettuce to be ready....Red Sails should give me some outer leaves this week. We'll be staying home through much of the winter next year, so I'll be able to see for myself how long it holds up in the WA garden.
Is that what garden produce looks like... I almost forgot how it looks :-) Everything looks delicious. I'm rooting for those tomato plants.
ReplyDeleteDan, I think one tomato plant has bit the dust, and the other isn't far behind. I never did get a ripe tomato from the one that's dead, they all came from the other plant. Mr. H has even given up taking them out in the mornings.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Veggies...
ReplyDeleteI cant wait til spring to start our garden season back up! I miss working out in the garden and watching all that good food grow.
Oh, Jennifer...me too! Things grow so slowly for me here, in the winter. I love working in my spring garden and watching it grow.
ReplyDeleteThat red romaine looks so pretty! I would love to have some in my garden. I can't WAIT for the warmer weather!!
ReplyDeleteKalena Michele, I love that red Romaine. I have just a few seeds left to plant this spring, then I'm going to order more...it's a keeper, if only for the color it adds. It's not so pretty when the weather warms though. It only has that deep ruby color in cool/cold weather.
