Only four days until Saturday, the day we leave for Arizona. I'm trying to tackle one room at a time, packing what we need, and giving the room a thorough cleaning, so that I can come back home to a nice clean house. Today the laundry room got cleaned, shelves and floor scrubbed, canned goods organized, washer and dryer wiped down inside and out, all the dry beans pulled off the window shelf and put into envelopes (seeds) or jars (food). I've decided to shell and cook the rest of the cranberry beans, rather than take a chance they'll mold if I leave them to finish drying. They can be blanched and frozen if we can't eat them all right away.
The actual dry bean total weight was 36 ounces, including the Fortex that will be used as seed. That 6 ounces of Fortex would have cost $12.70, including shipping, if I had purchased them from Johnny's Seeds. So not only did they provide us with several gallons of delicious green beans, they will be a source of free seeds for years to come.
The harvest total in my sidebar will be updated daily, for the rest of the week.
I can't believe it's time for you to leave already!!!! Will you have internet?
ReplyDeleteToni, I never know until I get there! If the RV park across the street still offers it, I will. Otherwise I'll just have to drive to the library once or twice a week to use theirs. That is, if it's working. Sometimes it's not.
ReplyDeleteMy hubby's grandparents used to snowbird to AZ and back to OR. Never really thought about what a chore it would be to make a move for that long. Hope you will have internet connection on a regular basis! Good luck with the cleaning. And organizing. And packing. And probably keeping Mr. Granny out of your hair!

LOL, Lori, especially that last one! I got a lot done today, the laundry room, both bathrooms and one bedroom. Everything packed except the overnight bag and stuff from the fridge. I should finish the cleaning tomorrow, then last minute garden stuff....that's not going to get finished, it's growing faster now than it did all last month!
ReplyDeleteSo, curious minds want to know. Do you like one place better than the other? Are you always going to switch homes, or do you ever see yourself "settling down"? I don't know if I could do all that switching, but part of it does sound exciting!
ReplyDeleteSue, our WA house is "home". The AZ mobile is our "winter cabin". Lots of difference, and yes, I'm ready to settle down if the AZ place would sell. It's been on the market for over a year now.
ReplyDeleteI remember reading about your last two years of Arizona adventures (like that adventure you had in Mexico with the dentist trip) when I ODed on your blog when I first discovered it (with no bad lasting side effects, I might add). I'm looking forward to reading about your adventures this winter in "real" time!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea that 6 oz of Fortex seeds would cost that much money from Johnny's. After hearing all your praises of this variety this summer, I was looking forward to trying it myself next year, but maybe not if it's going to cost me that much just for one variety of beans!
Thyme2, I probably won't have many (mis)adventures this year. We sold the jeep, and the Ranger is getting so much mileage on it, we're hesitant to take it on the rough trips any more. And....I got my enhanced drivers license! I can get back out of Mexico legally now ;-)
ReplyDeleteThis winter will probably be very boring, just keeping the place looking nice and hope we find a buyer. We might take in a flea market or two, or hit a Mexican produce market. We'll try to do something!
Wishing you all the best in the move. I've got a ton of cosmos that comes back every year and always where I do not want it. Funny how that happens.
ReplyDeleteLorie, thank you.
ReplyDeleteWhere I have mine sitting now, the only place they can seed is where I'd want them or in the grass. If they grow in the grass, they'll just be mowed. Borage is my garden "weed". It volunteers everywhere, even yards away from where it was growing. I let my dill go to seed this year, so I'll have dill "weeds" next year.
