October 18, 2010 - Safe Arrival

We drove into the driveway at 8:30 last night, and spent the next two hours unpacking. I didn't think I'd brought much until I began putting it all away! We finally decided to wait until morning to finish up, and here it is nearly noon and I'm not finished yet! Of course, there were things that needed immediate attention, like turning on the water, the gas and the refrigerator. I spent much of the night trying to get at least one TV working, but gave up and called DISH, only to find out they had to do some kind of an equipment upgrade before anything would work. I had already reprogrammed all three of the remotes, and done all the proper connections, but none of the three sets would turn off the screen saver. Soooo....the DISH mover man will be here Wednesday morning, and Mr. Granny will have to be content with watching DVDs until then.

I noticed there was a strong WIFI signal from the RV park across the street, so I went over this morning with my mac address to have them get me on. They said they were switching providers on Thursday, as this one has never been very reliable, but she got me on and I'm keeping my fingers crossed it will stay connected until the switchover. At least I can get email, and I'm assuming I'll be able to publish the blog, even though pages are very slow to load.

I need to get back to my unpacking, but I wanted you all to know we made it here, safe and sound, and to thank you for all your well wishes. By the way, Annie's Dramamine worked great, she didn't get a bit car sick. When we unlocked the door to the house, she ran inside and laid down belly up, with a grin on her funny little face....just like she did last year! By next weekend, everything should be back to normal.

I have some pictures to share, but I'll save them for next time.

  3. I'm glad to hear that you all made it down the safely! Don't you miss the good old days when you could just hit the Power On button and have your TV turn on instantaneously? The new fancy TVs and their programmable remotes makes me want to just read a book sometimes!

Ribbit, at least I brought my Hand & Foot cards this time. I forgot them last year, and I had to keep borrowing a foot holder from someone else.

Thyme2, I even miss the old single set DISH receivers. I could get the entire system up and running in minutes. These dual receivers are a b**ch! The remotes have to be reprogrammed every time we change locations, as they have to control different brands of TVs.

Erin, you're too late. Although I did get a 30 minute nap in between the chores today. The dry weeds are everywhere, just as I thought they'd be, and my drip irrigation failed. I guess the water is just too full of minerals, and all the emitters clogged. I got some of the front cleaned up today, but still a lot to go. I didn't take photos of the patio area before I cleaned it up, but will be sure to take some of the back tomorrow. I'm ready for bed, and it's only 7:00!

Debiclegg, I wish I had, she's so funny! When she does that, we call her Little Orca Annie!

Thank you, Sarada. It was plenty warm today! I'll be getting up early in the mornings to get my outside work done while it's cool.

Toodie, I'm ready to go belly up myself, but I doubt I'd have a smile on my face! Annie looks so dorky when she shows her little crooked teeth. I love her.

  11. Good luck with that internet connection. I hope it stays up for you. Now go get some rest.

  12. Annie is happy - all is right with the world. :D

Glad you made it safe and sound. I cannot imagine maintaining two households - one keeps us hopping as is! It must be nice though to sidestep the winters in large part. We should get a betting pool going on how long it will take before you start planting things in that little garden of yours there. :D

  14. Daphne, the connection was off all day today. I just got on at 7 tonight. I hope the new company they're going with is more reliable.

    ********
Kitsap, if I don't have something planted by this weekend, I'll just give up gardening! LOL

    ********
Barbie, keep your fingers crossed, 'cause the internet connection was down all day today. They have a router that has to be constantly reset, and if their son isn't home to do it, it doesn't get done. He goes to college classes in town, so it's only up and running when he's home and wants to be on line.
