I was asking
Daphne if it bothers her to pull mature crops from her garden, after so carefully planning how they would look when planted in a pretty design. She said it doesn't really bother her, but I always hesitate to ruin the patterns of my garden.
I've been harvesting outer leaves of the first four rows in the lettuce bed, but the pretty Little Gem Romaine lettuce in the back row just begs to be picked and served whole.
I don't like empty spaces in my rows.
Luckily, I have about a hundred small seedlings ready and waiting to fill in the blanks.
I get upset, but likely fill it with something totally different. I lost a broccoli and planted beats in it's place. ROFL. Lost lettuce, plant radishes. I just want the space used. I only have 150 SF.
ReplyDeleteLOL! You are too cute.
ReplyDelete(I have this problem too. I'm working on it-but I still look at this picture and think )IT'S NOT EVEN!!!)
LOL!
:D
Just wait. I have to let the Little Gem and Paris Island go to seed this year. Now that ought to really mess the plan up. I just have to remember not to eat them all.
ReplyDeleteI'm the same as you, my little lettuce heads will have to come out this week, and I'm sad about it!
ReplyDeleteLOL! I know just how you feel. Especially about lettuce. I love how it looks and hesitate to harvest a whole head. Luckily it does grow quickly.
ReplyDeleteI totally understand this! It is nice to have a little replacement to stick in there!
ReplyDeleteThat is some blue ribbon lettuce!
ReplyDeleteThat lettuce looks perfect! I need to work on my seed starting. No luck with lettuce.
ReplyDeleteThose are pretty heads of lettuce and I would not hesitate to harvest them, but I know what you mean about the holes they leave behind. I usually just live with the gaps for a while until the section is just ready to be replanted. You are ahead of the game having some starts ready to pop in.
ReplyDeleteI guess there are advantages to being a sloppy gardener like myself. There is no rhyme or reason so you never can tell what is missing when I pick something.
ReplyDeleteLOL! I see there are a few of us who are OCD about their lettuce beds!
ReplyDeleteI never really pull up the entire plant(unless it's dead!) I guess I'm always hoping for another harvest:) Like someone mentioned, it might be a good thing to be a random gardener, so you can never tell if something is missing or that's way the garden originally was!Lol!
ReplyDeleteEmpty spaces really bother me too, but usually just get planted again with flowers of some kind....
ReplyDeleteOh you would not like my beds then. I always seem to have empty spaces and can never seem to get them replanted.
