It looks as though many of the comments from the 11th and later are gone. Maybe they will eventually reappear. I'm just happy we're all able to post again!
It's not like I have a lot to say. The garden is growing slowly, as we can't seem to have more than one or two warm days in a row. We should be in the high 70s to low 80s by mid-May, and the forecast has us plunging down into the low to mid 60s for the rest of this week. With the cool spring we've had, I couldn't believe my eyes yesterday when I saw this......
Not one, but two baby tomatoes on one of the Bloody Butcher plants, seeds courtesy of Mr. H.
Yesterday I pulled all the spinach from one of the unprotected-by-netting areas. The leaf miners are worse than I've ever seen them, and it was taking more time to clean the egg clusters from the backs of the leaves than the crop was worth. I used the space to plant four three-foot rows of carrots. The second unprotected spinach bed will be pulled today, but I'm not yet sure what will be planted in its place. Next year spinach will only be planted under row covers.
Congrats on the baby tomato! I was wondering if my computer was malfunctioning... I saw my reader today and thought "wow, is everyone taking the day off blogging?" - you are the first post that has popped up on my reader today, and the normal flood of email comments I subscribe to has been a paltry 8 today LOL!
ReplyDeleteI hear ya on Blogger! I was a panic :) And I see I have two posts that went completely missing from this week too :(
ReplyDeleteMan, you're fast Erin! I just barely pushed the publish button and there was your comment. I've been trying to blog about my first tomato since right after lunch yesterday, so I was really beginning to panic when Blogger was still down at 9:30 this morning!
ReplyDeleteI was having blogger withdrawl.... I may not post every day, but try and read up everyday and get my gardening "fix" via the web. I hope I get my post back! Congrats on the cute baby tomato =)
ReplyDeleteAllison, it looks like all my posts survived, just not the comments. I started backing up my posts (copying the HTML so they contain formatting and photos), but I've only managed to get two months done out of three years worth! I need to remember to make a copy each time I blog.
ReplyDeleteEkk! Good Point....I should be backing up posts too :/
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your first baby tomatoes Granny! Geez, I was starting to get really worried about blogger since it was down so long.
ReplyDeleteI am so jealous of your baby tomatoes! Looking forward to getting some of my own. If it would just warm up a little.
ReplyDeleteBaby tomatoes? cute!
ReplyDeleteI hear you! I was starting to get worried that my public "journal" was lost forever!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your baby tomatoes! I am excited to buy/plant mine this weekend in MA!
I am missing a few posts from this week, too. Weird. Oh I hope it never disappears completely. I don't know what I'd do. LOL. Nice baby maters! Mine rae too hot right now. In anticipation of a short cool down next week I'm taking off anything blushing to help set whatever I can during the cool off.
ReplyDeleteNartaya, I was sending withdrawal emails to Robin!
ReplyDelete********
Allison, I copied 10 more today. If I could do ten a day it would only take me two months to get them all done ;-)
I did do the Blogger backup once (last year), but it's kind of weird. It does copy sidebar and comments, but they seem to be all mixed up.
********
Robin, after I published the photo, I saw there is actually a third baby on that plant.
********
Alison, It got warm for two days here, now it's supposed to get cold again :-(
********
Random, a true miracle in this weather.
********
Alizardinthegarden, my plants are still small, I just planted them in the past week or so. I really wasn't expecting them to set fruit so soon.
Congratulations on those first TWO tomatoes!!! The most exciting ones of the year!
ReplyDeleteBlogger not only ate some of my comments, but it ate one of my posts too. Yesterday's post is gone - the one about my carrot experiments. Ah well. Maybe I should repost it. I copied it from my Google reader when I saw they were taking down posts.
ReplyDeleteAnd yay for the baby tomatoes. I think I have a ways to go before I get those.
Barbie, I'm almost wishing I were complaining about the heat....almost. Actually, ten degrees warmer would be perfect.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get your posts back. I don't think any of mine are missing, just missing comments.
Megan, look closely at the picture....I just noticed there are three there, the third id just forming behind the blossom.
ReplyDelete********
Daphne, I'm copying posts like mad to a file on my desktop. I only have about 600 left to go :-(
Comments are still coming in weird. You can see my answers are way behind the comments.
I noticed my first broccoli head forming today! Yesterday tomatoes, today broccoli....hurray for the 2011 garden!
Oh my Granny! Are those tomatoes I see?? Congrats! You'll have to tell me how they are. I hope my tomato plants survive me being on vacation!!
ReplyDeleteHolly, the plant is only about a foot tall, it probably shouldn't be getting fruit already....but I'm not picking them off! I do hope yours are OK, we might get early tomatoes yet!
ReplyDeleteEveryone has baby tomatoes! Even my team teacher who hasn't planted a tomato in his life has baby tomatoes. I can't stand it.
ReplyDeleteI want a school divorce.
I can't wait to see all of yours. I love yours. He can stick his.
It was my plant! My plant that I gave him and now he's got baby tomatoes?
ReplyDeleteThat's it. He's teaching in the hall.
;)
I was quite surprised also to find Blogger on the fritz....takiing with it all the comments (and my replies to them) with it. Ah well, it's good it's back. I got a little "attached"..........
ReplyDeleteOh, Ribbit.....poor Ribbit. Yes, that teacher can just put his tomato where the sun don't shine!
ReplyDelete********
Sue, is "attached" the right word? I was -this- close to taking up drinking.
I've been using blogger as a garden diary. I probably should start writing things down! good luck with the backup...that's a full time job right there!
ReplyDeleteThe little tomatoes (and the lettuce) look great! I want me some harvest too!
Charmcity, that was my main objective, to keep a garden diary. I find myself looking back at previous posts all the time, to see what worked, what didn't and when and where everything was planted. I'd sure hate to lose three years worth of notes!
ReplyDeleteDang, you are going to have ripe tomatoes before I even get my plants in the ground...pretty cool.:)
ReplyDeleteHope we don't have as many issues with leaf miners this year as you are, they were pretty bad for us last year and even got into the leaves of our tomatillo plants...nasty little buggers.
Baby tomatoes!! How exciting!!
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time I have experienced blogger trouble. I missed reading everyone's updates. My last post and comments disappeared.
Thanks to you, Mr. H.! It looks like you and I are parents to baby Bloody Butcher triplets ;-)
ReplyDeleteI have never seen so many leaf miner eggs in previous years. I'm not sure the netting will keep them all away, but it certainly has helped to keep them under control so far. I did see one egg on spinach harvested from that bed, but it could very well have been along the edge and exposed.
********
Rachel, it looks like everyone's posts are coming back, but I'm still missing some comments. It's the first time I've had trouble with Blogger, too.
Wow, you have baby maters already! Hahahaha, I'm only in the germination phase. I have a ways to go!
ReplyDeleteHurrah for baby tomatoes and I am glad Blogger is back up for you. So many folks use Blogger - now I know why it has been so quiet for the past day or so! :D
ReplyDeleteMeems, I didn't even realize I was expecting, LOL! I knew there were blossoms, but figured they'd just drop off in this cold weather.

Kitsap, my blog reader was sitting at zero for nearly 24 hours! Now Blogger is republishing all the blogs it had removed, so there are many appearing that have already been read. You'd think I could have accomplished a lot of gardening and/or housework during that time, but no, I had to sit here and refresh every half hour to see if it was working again! That and I was trying for another Bag of Crap. Got one, too! That's my fourth in less than a year. Dang, I'm good.
Yes, I am sick of not being able to read blogs, post comments etc....oh how we need our daily blogs!
ReplyDeleteNice to see those first tomatoes setting.
ReplyDeleteI just started blogging but was starting to have withdrawal symptoms before it came back up.
Kelly, I told Mr. Granny if I couldn't read and blog, I might just as well give it up. It would be like cutting off my right arm! I'm hooked, it's more addictive than booze and cigarettes, LOL!

Wilderness, when are you going to share your blog with us? I keep checking your profile for a link, and it's not there :-(
Granny I am new at this and am not sure what I have to do so I am sharing my blog. I know anyone who views Monday Harvest can get there but apparently no one else. Help me out.
ReplyDeleteI am new at this so guess I need some help so you can get to my blog.
