  2. Queen of the lettuce! Perhaps a SECOND bunny is in order?
    The raspberries look heavenly.

  3. What a bounty! Sadly I don't think my peas will do anything this year, poo.

  4. You are so, so good at taking your pictures! I only seem to shoot one out of every four trips.

  5. It all looks delicious...a good bounty.

  6. I came across your blog while blog hopping. Wow, what a great harvest.

  7. Your killing me with all those raspberry pictures...still waiting for my plants to flower. Do you grow black raspberries?

  8. Gran you are so far ahead of me in weight this year! Wait, wait, my squash are coming soon.... then I can catch up... until YOUR squash kicks in LOL! Looks great!

  9. What a lovely harvest. How have you kept the lettuce going so long? Mine pooped out a while back.

  10. Alison, we're finally getting enough to hide a few away in the freezer for a batch of jam. I've never had enough for jam from what I have planted here. I might end up with enough for at least a batch of freezer jam.

    ********
Sue, no, no, an emphatic no! No more bunnies. I'm tired of stinky rabbit pee and emptying pooper boxes. At least it doesn't have to be done daily now that he's outside.

    ********
David, this was a very short pea season for me, although the actual amount was equal to what I picked last year. I just picked more at once, with fewer pickings.

    ********
Ribbit, I need to bring in more than one thing at a time. I end up with too many photos of single items, but I tend to just harvest one thing, then get it prepped and refrigerated before I go back out for another.

    ********
Thanks, Ginny. It will get better when those tomatoes start coming in!

    ********
Mum, I'm glad you stopped by!

    ********
Mr. H., no I just grow the one variety, Canby, which is a one crop summer bearer. I only have room for that one 4'x8' bed.

    ********
Erin, my crookneck and zucchini aren't even up yet! New seeds, so I don't know what the problem is, but I'm trying to get some seeds to sprout in wet coffee filters now. I may not have summer squash at all this year. One little plant popped up, but first something chewed on it, then John stepped on it, so I think I can kiss it goodbye. Oh, the three tomato plants that are planted in the garden (no buckets) are showing signs of verticillium wilt. I've been removing leaves, but it's a soil born disease, and sprays won't help. I lost all my tomatoes on that side of the garden in 2009, while the row right next to them grew fine and healthy.

  11. Eleanor, I have the main lettuce bed wedged between shed and fence, where it gets shaded in the afternoons. It has nearly been emptied now, and I'm setting in its third round of seedlings. I hope they begin growing before the older plants run out! I do still have a row behind the tomatoes, but those plants are getting quite large, and possibly close to turning bitter.

  12. Another beautiful harvest! I have yet to pick any raspberries! My yellows are just now starting to ripen and the reds failed to bloom. I'm going to have to rely on the Farmers Market again this year for my raspberries! You are so lucky to have such a beautiful crop!

  13. Looks like you are getting into the food photography business. LOL. Great harvest this week Granny!

  14. Pout! I want your raspberries. I miss mine and the small space I planted them in will never be as productive as the larger space I had before. Plus I have to share them in that space. And you have tomatoes and carrots. Now you are just rubbing it in ;>

  15. My goodness Granny, you had a great week! I just started picking my raspberries yesterday. I don't know if I will be able to save enough for a batch of jam though :(

  16. Gosh - lol - I cannot believe you are already up to 73# total for the harvest already this year! Awesome!

  17. Lynda, I'm thinking I won't get enough for jam, though. Now the kids are demanding Pioneer Woman's Individual Raspberry Cobblers! I've put just over a pound in the freezer, hoping for jam.

    ********
    Thanks, Barbie.

    ********
Daphne, you don't know how tempted I am to turn the strawberry bed into another raspberry bed for some fall berries. Or even more of these summer bearing ones. I could do strawberries in containers. I'm afraid I just ate the last of the four ripe tomatoes...had it for breakfast! It will be a while before any more ripen.

    ********
Robin, I see Ball now makes Flex Batch pectin, so you can make smaller batches of jam if you don't have enough fruit for a regular batch. I hope I can find it on the grocer's shelves here.

    ********
Allison, I'm actually way behind last years harvest total of 103.9 pounds by June 27. I was getting carrots, potatoes and green beans in June last year, as well as larger crops of cabbage and onions.

  18. Still raking in the lettuce aren't ya! Ha ha! And look at all those raspberries! Does it take a while for your raspberries to establish and give you more? This is my first year with them and I am getting a small hand full here and there. No where near what you are getting! Maybe next year...

    ReplyDelete
  19. Shawn Ann, yes. My first year, 2009, I picked less than half a pound from four plants. Last year I got 9 1/4 pounds, and so far this year I have 4 1/2 pounds. Google "pruning raspberries" to see just how to treat your variety, as summer bearing (mine) are different from fall or everbearing.

  20. oh! Raspberries! I would really love to have either a raspberry or blueberry bush some day! Maybe both:)

  21. I loved watching your raspberry harvest grow bigger each day. And congratulations on the broccoli harvest. If I remember right you felt a bit frustrated with it a few weeks back. It looks like you got something after all.

  22. Charmcity, just remember, one raspberry cane soon turns into a dozen. That dozen then spreads some more! I have raspberries trying to grow in my strawberry patch. In a perfect world, there would be a long row of them with grass on each side that could be mowed to keep the suckers cut down.

    ********
Jody, I did actually harvest more broccoli this year, but I had a lot more plants. The heads were small, and only a few of them are giving me worthwhile side shoots. I think I'd like to try a different variety next year, one that would yield a bit better.

I have no complaints about the raspberries, except to say I wish I had room for twice as many :-)

  23. Those raspberries look awesome! They look like little pieces of candy. What are you taking your pictures on with that black background. It really sets off your pics and looks nice.

  24. Kris, that's my black glass cooktop. A stinker to keep clean, but great for taking pictures! I also like the floor in front of the sliding glass door, the light hits it just right, and if I have a dark colored dish, the top of the clothes washer or dryer works well.

We're loving these bowls of berries every evening! Too bad raspberry season doesn't last longer.

  25. I love the pattern of your week harvest... vegetable..raspberries...vegetable...raspberries...vegetable...raspberries...rinse and repeat!

I noticed you just slipped in there the first tomato of the year! No big fan fare of trumpets blazing and red carpets?! Was it good or the usual first tomato blah taste?

    ReplyDelete
  26. For heaven's sake, Kitsap, where have you been? I did an entire post on that first tomato!
