March 17, 2010: The Wearing of the Green

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Like granddaughter, Alicyn, Mr. H and I have our green shirts on today. We're hauling the composted cow poop and getting it spread on the garden beds. We've unloaded a half yard of dairy compost, and are just getting ready to go back to the nursery for a half yard of twig and leaf compost to blend with it. Lovely, lovely gardening weather today!

  1. *Sigh* you need to revoke our parenting cards. We forgot to dress both kids in green today and had to race around the school trying to find the boy a shamrock to pin to his shirt. Poor kid had such a good attitude. The shirt that he did have on was yellow and blue and he said, "The smart kids will know that yellow and blue make green."

  2. Aw, she's such a cutie, Granny. :)

I'm jealous! Our weather has been freezing cold today and the soil just won't dry out from that downpour we had a couple of days back -- not without the help of the sun. Dang it.

  5. Your little leprechaun is a sweetie! I totally forgot to wear green today but thankfully no one gave me any grief about it! I did harvest some greens today though.

  6. We had amazing weather today as well. I almost planted some radishes outside of tunnels. Great photo Granny!

  7. CUTE grandbaby. I'm amazed at all the work you do in your garden. I'm excited to see your northern garden grow this year. So much space. And your posts on bread-making inspired me to get out my bread machine and make homemade bread. I know, not the same as kneading by hand, but sooooo much easier for this granny. Leaves me more time to play in my garden.

  8. Aww, Ribbit, how could you forget? With a mom like you, it's a good thing the boy has a good attitude. There, that should have made you feel like crap ;-)

Meredith, thank you. We think she's pretty cute. I'm sorry about your soggy soil. Ours is so dry I had to use city water to sprinkle the potatoes and radishes. Our irrigation water doesn't get turned on until next week.

Erin, she learned to say "I love you" today, but only her mom and I can understand..."Aw wah wah". She's always ready with kisses for "Mama" & "Pa". Yes, her mom and I are both Mama.

Sunny, I got one load spread, most of the next load goes into my buckets and planters. That will be much easier.

Kitsap, you could have stuck a leaf in each ear for your "wearin' of the green", LOL!!!

Thanks Dan. Oh, it was perfect gardening weather today. I was in a T-shirt, and the sun would go behind a cloud and I'd grab a sweater. A minute or two later, the sun would peek out again and the sweater had to come off. I mostly worked in the raspberry bed, I'll be blogging about that soon.

Lou Murray, I never knead bread by hand! I usually use my food processor, but sometimes get out the bread machine. I do, however, always bake in the oven. My bread machine's results are too "iffy". I'd much rather be in my garden than in my kitchen.

EG, Alicyn's a girl. I know it fades into the background, but look at the pony tail on top of her head. She's a wild one, though....might as well have been a boy.
