The garden is awakening! I cleaned out the strawberry bed today, and was so surprised to see quite a few blossoms already. I think it's at least a month early.
Granddaughter Alicyn was here again today. She got to dig with the trowel and fill her wagon with dirt. I think the exercise, sunshine and fresh air got to her. Her mother said she barely made it inside the door when she got home....................
The yougin's can't even keep up with you Granny :-)
ReplyDeleteLOL, Dan, that's the truth!
ReplyDeleteAwww..if that isn't precious I don't know what is! I wish my little guy would do that, he's getting his top molars in and he's just not sleeping well.
ReplyDeleteToo cute!!! My little one came in from the park this weekend screaming that she wasn't tired. I was still getting groceries out of the car and heard her protesting her heart out all of the way in the house, up the stairs and in her room where she promptly put herself to bed before I even shut the car door.
ReplyDeleteDan's right. You're a force to be reckoned with.
Rebecca, Alicyn never takes an afternoon nap, but two days in a row now she's fallen asleep as soon as she got home.

What can I say, Ribbit? I'm just a go-getting-gardening fool!
So cute! (Both the strawberry blossoms and the little one. ;)
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what we all need...some hard work, some fresh air, some granny time and a nice little nap.... very sweet :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Meredith. The blossoms surprised me, the sleepy baby girl not so much ;-)

Sunny, I think I could use a nice little nap myself! It's the fresh air and sunshine :-)
Spring air, dirt, sunshine, and a little physical effort - all add up to sleeping well! She really is just too cute for words.

I remember reading that afternoon sun really did help kids fall asleep. I'm always heading them outside. Go out and PLAY!
ReplyDeleteBut maybe I should make them go out and dig.
Stefaneener, two days of digging in the garden convinced her mother to get her a sandbox! She's never fallen asleep so easily ;-)
ReplyDeleteWhat are you doing to that little girl, Granny? You know there are child labor laws here in the U.S,.... LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteGranny, why did you give the slave-child back? I'd have kept her in a cupboard and brought her out when I needed heavy-lifting done!
ReplyDeleteSometimes I wish I could do that. :)
ReplyDeleteSo nice to see flowers on those strawberries, mine are just starting to put up leaf growth.
Ah the garden is waking up and the kid is falling asleep. I always liked those days when I had young kids in the house.
ReplyDeleteGrandma and Grandpa's little helper is so cute.:)
ReplyDeleteI think you are right and everything is a month ahead, I hope the weather does not fool us, I have my tomatoes started really early this year...fingers crossed.
You know what else is cute? That little dog of yours that I find staring at me everytime I leave a comment.:) We used to have a little dachshund named Sunny, I always think of him when I see your Annie.
Precious sleeping little one!
ReplyDeleteStrawberries are blooming in some flower beds where I let runners and plants grow as ground cover and critters eat the fruit.
Your strawberries are looking so happy ... and your Granddaughter exhausted! Cute!
ReplyDeleteErin, shhhhh...you'll get me in trouble!

TIG, why didn't you suggest that yesterday? That's a great idea! Especially since I lost Mr. H as my grunt, after his arm gave a big snap when he was shoveling the poo yesterday, and now he's in quite the pain. It was bad enough that he went to the doctor, who told him it was just a muscle pull, and that he should know better than to the woman's job.

Kelly, my strawberries are usually just beginning to green up this time of the year. I thought, when I spotted one blossom, it was just a fluke of nature....then I saw more and more! My daffodils were at least two weeks early, too.
********
Daphne, me too!

Thank you, Mr. H.
I started my tomatoes early, too. Even after I had made a notation last year to start them two weeks later this year.
Annie thanks you, she thinks she's very pretty.

NellJean, she's very precious to us. She and the other grandchildren are the main reason I was anxious to get back home from AZ. I miss them too much through the winter months.
It's not even strawberry planting time here yet, usually the plants are just getting some new green growth, not blossoms!
She is so adorable! It's great that she plays with soil at such a tender age ~ may learn to love gardening from her Nan!
ReplyDeleteSo wonderful! The strawberry blossoms, a helpful toddler, and a sleeping toddler lol. "These are a few of my favorite things..."
ReplyDeleteKiwi gomes, I'm happy my strawberries look so good. We have no irrigation water yet, so the beds are getting awfully dry, I think I'll have to carry water to them today.
ReplyDeleteJ.C., she does love playing in the soil! She doesn't really like getting her hands dirty, though. She needs some tiny garden gloves.

Momma_S, a few of my favorite things, too ;-)
Hahahaha.....I love it. It's amazing that you have strawberry blossoms already. Does this mean you had a very mild winter then? And are these your day neutral strawberries?
ReplyDeleteAwww Granny - what an awesome pic of your granddaughter! They grow up so fast though, don't they? In the blink of an eye, they don't nap anymore and they tire YOU out. Sigh...
ReplyDeleteI just discovered that my strawberry plants seem to have come back to life. I was going to pull them up, but I noticed they were turning green again and had a flower on them! I had no idea. This type of info is NOT on the little plastic tag that comes in the plants when you buy them - LOL. I didn't see the "these plants might look dead, but will still be alive" sentence.
Kate, they do grow so fast, one of the reasons I needed to get back home. I already missed out on 4 1/2 months of her precious life.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, your strawberries will be good to bear fruit for 2-3 years. Start letting runners root toward the end of the second year, so you'll have some replacement plants, then just dig out the old plants in the third year (or when they stop producing well) and let the new ones take over the job.
Thomas, the neighbor said we had a mild winter, but I thought it was colder than usual, just looking at the weather reports.
ReplyDeleteYes, those are the day neutral berries...love 'em! I hope they perform as well for me this year, or better.
How sweet :-) She must have really enjoyed herself.
ReplyDeleteGoing through my backlog on stuff I've been meaning to do so this is wayyyy late. But! Isn't she adorable?? So cute helping you in the garden and passing out in the floor is just too funny! And cute! :)
ReplyDeleten0name, thanks, I think so :-) We got some adorable photos of her yesterday. I'd love to post one or two, but I hate to overdo the Granny pride on the blog.
