Granddaughter Alicyn's sitter is unavailable for a couple of days, so she's spending some time with Grandma and Grandpa. I'm a big believer in child labor, no matter what the age, so I got her out in the garden this afternoon and put her to work hauling compost ;-)
How absolutely adorable. I'm sure she did all that compost without any help too. ;> I really look forward to the day I get grandkids and get to sit with them.
******** Stefaneener, I agree. Kevin sometimes helps, now maybe I can train Alicyn to like gardening.
******** EG, no. But she ate three Mandarin oranges, a Raisin Bran muffin and a cup of hot chocolate! She worked up an appetite!
******** Yes she is, Hippie Mom. A beautiful little gift.
******** Thank you, Ribbit.
******** Kelly, she had a ball. She seemed so serious about her work, though! Today we're going to dig holes.....well, I'm going to weed the strawberries, she's going to dig holes.
******** Erin, that's the results of the four raspberry canes I planted last spring! They're going crazy....maybe I'll get more than a cup of berries this year.
******** The Mom, thank you!
******** Kathy, grandparenting is great. You can send them home when they get cranky.
******** Rebecca, I didn't know you were expecting! When are "we" going to have the baby? You do know "we" (all us crazy garden bloggers) will have to be included in this miracle of birth, don't you?
Alicyn's Mom said she fell asleep as soon as she got home, around 4:00 p.m.!
******** Thank you, Sarada. She carries a big bucket!
******** Yes, Daphne, "we" emptied the whole cart. One more cart to go (we've done five of them). Did you notice Mr. H helping? He normally shuns anything to do with the garden, but has been unusually helpful this spring. I think it's the memory of all those tomatoes last summer.
******** Someone needs to carry on the tradition, Tatyana! My grandmother was a gardener, so it only makes sense my granddaughter will be a gardener ;-)
******** The Canned Quilter, thank you. Yes, we're lucky to have our Alicyn. Her mother waited 14 years between children, so she was a bit of a surprise ;-)
Thank you, Sunny. Yes, she was fun to watch yesterday. Today I'm going to weed the strawberry bed, so she can dig with a trowel. She brought her little wagon over, maybe I'll let her move some more compost ;-)
Granny, number 4 will be arriving around the first of September, if not a little before. I'm about 90% sure it's a boy, since I was really sick with the girls and didn't get sick once with our little boy. I'm at 4 months now, and I haven't been queasy at all, thank goodness! Morning sickness is no joke when you've got three little ones to take care of.
And please, please, please, get us a pic of that little darling with her little wagon!
Oh, my...I hope you can bend down to harvest your crops this summer ;-) I had five children, one was adopted but I gave birth to four and never had morning sickness. I just wanted to eat everything in sight.
You didn't get enough pictures in yesterday's post? I actually deleted four or five others, as I thought that was really overkill :-)
Alicyn is so lovely, Granny. I'm a firm believer in getting the kids involved in meaningful work early, too, and she looks to have enjoyed her time in the garden with you. So darling!
She is as cute as a button! I'm convinced that kids are naturally drawn to veggie gardens. Hopefully, she will grow up to be an avid gardener in her own right...like her Grannie!
Thomas, she really enjoyed herself, which made her easy to care for. She's such an active child, it's hard to keep up with her in the house, but outside she entertains herself.
Rachel, Alicyn and I worked well together. I think we get more kissing and hugging time than gardening time though, as it should be. She actually prefers her grandpa to me. I was my grandpa's girl too, so I can understand that.
Way too cute for words.
ReplyDeleteSo wonderful! For both of you. Hear, hear, for child labor!! Get 'em started right.
ReplyDeletegranny, I hope you gave her milk and cookies after all that hard work! She's a cutie pie...
ReplyDeleteGod Bless her. She is such a gift♥
ReplyDeleteWhat a doll!!
ReplyDeleteShe seemed to having quite the time, that smile on her face is priceless!
ReplyDeleteShe's adorable! And what do you have growing on your trellis in the bed already?!! You just got home and it looks like you wasted no time at all!
ReplyDeleteTrain them young! She's adorable.
ReplyDeleteNothing better than the grandparent/grandchild combo. I love it!
ReplyDeleteThose pics do funny things to this pregnant lady's hormones..she's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteShe looks like she had a blast, and I bet she slept well last night!
Very cute, she is a big helper :)

ReplyDeleteHere we go! That's our girl - a future gardener!
ReplyDeleteHow absolutely adorable! What a lucky grandma : )
ReplyDeleteLiisa, we think so ;-)

She sure is a doll AG...I love that age and I bet you love spending time together especially in the garden!...

She has beautiful eye's!
ReplyDeleteThat bucket is almost as big as she is! She is just darling and it's so fun to see how much she is into doing her "job".

ReplyDeleteDan, I love the way her eyes have that dark ring around the outside of the irises. They used to be a lot bluer, now they are turning blue-gray.
ReplyDelete********
Kitsap, she's really "into" it! Today she got to dig.
********
Meredith, thank you. We enjoyed each others' company! She had a bit of a tantrum when it was time for her to go home.
Thomas, she really enjoyed herself, which made her easy to care for. She's such an active child, it's hard to keep up with her in the house, but outside she entertains herself.
ReplyDeleteHow sweet! Looks like Alicyn really enjoyed working in the garden. My grandfather used to allow me to putter around the garden with him too.

ReplyDeleteYou've got a awesome little gardener there, Granny :-) She is so cute!
