January 15, 2012 - Counter Tops Part 2

Formica was installed on the first counter top today. Of course, the tile back splash is still missing. In fact, I haven't even looked for the tiles yet. I'm thinking a light brown shade. John is going to retexture the wall first, as 4" tiles won't quite cover the area where the old back splash was removed. We're also going to replace all the plugins, switches and cover plates while we're at it, so they'll better match the paint color.

Mr. Granny is not impressed with the granite look. He says it looks like someone threw up on it. The man is hopeless.

  3. Mr. Granny sounds hard to please, lol. I think it great, not at all like vomit! And best of all it is not actually as hard as a rock. I think granite is beautiful, but it sure is cold and hard.

  4. It's looking good! Never mind Mr. Granny, who is probably just as resistant to change as most men are.

  5. Mrs. Pickles, thank you. I hope today goes as well as yesterday, and that I survive another day of glue sniffing.

  6. But, TIG, it isn't granite. It's plastic. Plastic isn't supposed to be black. Besides, just look at all the stuff I can spill on it, and nothing will show. I'll never have to clean the kitchen again!

  7. Robin, so do I. I'm anxious to get the remaining counter done.

  8. Kelly, our previous house had a granite fireplace hearth, and given the choice for a kitchen surface, I'd always opt for the Formica. That hearth was cold and hard for sitting on, that's for sure! Besides, this old house wouldn't be worth the expense to put in real granite.

  13. 1st Man, the biggest reaction I'm getting from him is when I show him the sales slips. He needs to just quit asking how much I'm spending. Today it was a new garbage disposal.
