I have a feeling it's going to be touch and go with this little garden. I'm surprised the rabbits didn't gain entry with only 2' of chicken wire between them and paradise, but they sure tore up the ground trying.
John, I wondered the same thing! They are right there at bunny level. All they had to do was hop up the ramp/sidewalk and start eating, but nothing has been touched. I have a cabbage plant in a pot by the driveway, sitting on a concrete block, and they haven't touched that either. The only thing I can think of is they have encountered the motion sensing yard light on that side of the house, and it frightens them off.
If only the light worked on coons, I'd install one immediately.
Glad to see your deterrence is working. I may have to get the mesh EG uses for his trellis and drape it over my hoop covers for protection. Costly pain that would be.
Sinfonian, I hate that ugly poultry wire, but whatever works will have to do. At home all I have to worry about (other than those rascally pups) are birds nibbling the greens and squirrels burying walnuts in the beds. Bird netting takes care of both problems.
Oh yeah.....they sure wanted in there, didn't they? Good job, granny!

Yeh, EG...and the picture doesn't do it justice. They did a war dance around that pen!
ReplyDeleteI wonder why they didn't bother them when they were in containers?
