April 28, 2009: Addendum

If I post two blogs in one day, does that make me a "Blog Hog"?

The tomatoes and peppers may hate this cold, rainy weather, but the salad greens love it! I donned my jacket and ventured out into the weather to see what I could find for tonight's salad, and I added a full 6 ounces to my harvest scale. This is a combination of Red Romaine, Red Sails, Buttercrunch and Prizehead lettuces, with lots of baby spinach and a sweet onion.

I didn't weigh the pansies ;-)

  1. Nice looking salad. Never tried pansies, how do they taste? I am hoping to harvest some greens any day now :-)

  2. Dan, I know pansies are edible, but I didn't try them. I just used them as decoration.

  3. I love pansies. Glad your greens seem to be doing well...I'm a bit irritated about the salad fixins not coming in together all at once.

  4. Ribbit, I wish I had planted more greens than I did. Of course, the quail ate almost all of the mesclun I planted for the rabbit, so we have to share our lettuces with him now. I have a lot of new lettuce plants emerging now, but if I don't make some covers, I'm sure they will get eaten.

  7. Granny, the pansies sure do enhance the photo....You must have me figured out pretty good, because I was gonna ask if ya weighed them too. Heh.

  8. EG, it would have been OK to weigh them, as they are one of the edible flowers! However, I've decided if I don't use the product for food, I won't weigh it. That's not to say I won't weigh stems, leaves and/or roots of the veggies I do bring in from the garden.

  9. I have that same beautiful silverware patern. Oneida brand. Almost 30 years later and I still love the pattern.

  10. Anonymous, I didn't remember the name of the pattern, but I remember getting it as a gift from my mother-in-law, who saved Betty Crocker coupons for the entire set! I have used it daily for all these years, and it's still as good as new.
