February 25, 2011 - Bummer :-(

Bad news. Our realtor just called, and our Arizona buyer just backed out of the sale. Now get this.....the reason being the furnace filter is too difficult to reach to change! It showed up in the house inspection she had done, and that was all she needed to get out of the deal. The realtor felt the buyer was grasping at straws, and probably just couldn't come up with the money. To say I'm upset would be an understatement. I mean, it's not a new house, it's an old single wide trailer, and priced to reflect just what it is. The land alone is worth what we were asking, so it's like the residence is being thrown in for nothing!

What a bummer.

  1. Totally an excuse. However, where there's one, there's another. Someone else will be along. Who wouldn't want it with all of the work you've done to it. You need to put a photo album inside with before and after pictures so potential buyers see how well you've maintained and improved the place.

  2. Granny, count yourself lucky with that one! People play all sorts of tricks when searching for homes, If they really want one...I had one say her mother was looking when in reality she wanted to see what it looked like inside since the flowers were so pretty outside..had the nerve to have a dog with her Ugh!...Better to stick with a realtor and screen potentials ...\

  3. Gosh, Ribbit, we had dropped the price over $5000 from the asking price. She could have put in a new furnace for that. In fact, if we end up down there next winter, we will put in a new one....and our price will reflect what that costs us.

Ginny, it WAS through a realtor, and we were in escrow! All the paperwork had been done and faxed back to the title company.

  4. Oh Granny, that was the worse excuse I have ever heard. Well, maybe it's a blessing in disguise. Can you imagine if you went down there and got all of your stuff and then it fell through??? Someone else will come along.

  5. That was definitely an excuse! Sorry to hear this, Gran. I hope this at least is the start of some interest in the property, this housing market can't stay bad forever.... I hope!!!

  6. Granny, I am so sorry the sale didn't go through. When I was house shopping about 9 years ago, the housing market was wicked hot. Each time I viewed a house, it was sold right under my nose before I even had a chance to think about it. My Realtor advised me to make an offer on any house that I liked and stated that I could always get out of it if I didn't like anything revealed during the inspections if I changed my mind. Not fair to the seller one bit.

I hope someone with good intentions makes an offer soon.

  8. Well, I'm sorry to hear this. But, if one person came this close, that's good news. I've heard of real estate that no one ever looked at. You know that you can bring in potential buyers. I'm hoping a deal works out soon for you.

  12. Granny, chill out, have a cold one. These things happen for a reason. Rather than feeling pissed about it, sit back and wait for the better option to come along. Trust me, I'm an idiot!

  14. I'm so sorry granny, what a big waste of your valuable time. I will keep my fingers crossed that it sell over the summer. Maybe if this cold weather continues everyone will want a place in Arizona.

  15. Real estate transactions are fraught with problems like that. The deal is not done until the money is in your account. That must have very frustrating though as all of this has to be done long distance for you. Not easy to do even when you are physically nearby. Hopefully someone will see it for the great value it is and snap it up soon.

  16. Thanks to everyone for all the *hugs*. The snowbird season ends by May 1, so if there is to be a sale this year, it will have to be soon.

Mr. H., it was my hope that the high gas prices would make someone prefer not driving their RV back and forth. It is much easier and cheaper to just drive your car to your winter home, and have it turn key ready to move right in each year.

  18. That is a real bummer. Realtor's should really make sure people are for real before showing homes. It is just a big waste of everyone's time.
