September 3, 2013 - A Poodle for Sue

Silly time!

This will be of no interest to most of you, but Sue wanted to see some old photos of Granny, including the one with the poodle cut.  Here ya go, Sue!

Granny, 1-year-old - 1940

Granny was a Campfire girl with a new bicycle - abt. 1950

Granny with a poodle cut, 1956.

Ooooh, Granny.  Really!  1957

Granny was also a very good fisherman!  Nulki Lake, B.C. 1962

Mr. Granny with my best friend's daughters.  Hydroplane races, Lake Couer d'Alene, Idaho - 1963

Here's son John with his first black eye, trying to fill Mr. Granny's big boots - 1963

Son John, 1963.

Mr. and Mrs. Granny - 1964

Granny, sons John and Rick - Yellowstone Park 1965

That's all I have for now, Sue.  I hope you enjoyed the journey through time.

  1. WooHoo! You were once a hot babe, Granny! In fact, I bet you still are. I love looking at old photos like these.

    1. LOL, Alison. I was just a warm babe. I couldn't find a 1960 photo with me wearing my bikini!

    1. They didn't bore you to death, Donna? I always hated it when people would drag out all their family photos, unless it was my family!

  3. I always find it amusing to look at old photos. You can really tell the era just by the clothing and hair.

    1. Daphne, my daughter and I were just saying there isn't a lot of difference in the way we dressed then and the way they dress now. Not like the difference from 1910 to 1960, for instance (Google images for 1910 fashions). Take the stirrups off of the pants I had on, and they would look like the skinny pants of today. I have several pictures of me in dresses that look just like what I'm seeing on the younger girls on TV right now. I wish I could find the photo of me in pink capris. It could have been taken today, except now my capris are blue and my body is fifty years older!

  4. Oh, this was FANTASTIC!
Loved them all. My gosh, you really have had a wonderful life.
You make quite the "pin-up" babe! No wonder Mr. Granny adores ya--you fish, garden...
What a neat glimpse into your life.
    Thank you.
    :)

  5. If personal ads were around back then, yours would have read:

"Single female, loves to garden and can veggies, likes to cook, bake and try new recipes, enjoys fishing and travel to exotic locales, always stylish and up on the latest fashion trends. Also looks hot in a bathing suit (picture available on request)."

    1. 1st. Man, I laughed so hard at that, I peed!

Oh, dear, that just brought up more memories...do not giggle while on horseback or sledding down a hill while friend is taking movies of your backside ;-)

  6. We're close to the same age but I never heard of a poodle cut. Did it involve a perm, too? Anyway, you look great in all the photos. I enjoyed looking at them.

    1. Oh yes, some of the first "home perms", if I remember correctly! Mother was very good at getting those curlers in really, really tight, LOL! I'm surprised I didn't end up bald headed.

From Wikipedia: In the poodle hairstyle, the hair is permed into tight curls, similar to the poodle’s curly hair (curling the hair involves time and effort). This style was popularized by Hollywood actresses like Peggy Ann Garner, Ann Sothern and Faye Emerson.

    1. Thank you, Hunkkebon! Right after that picture was taken, I rode my new bicycle down a hill and fell off of it! I didn't want to get the bike scratched up, so I hung onto it to keep it upright while I skinned up my knees on the pavement! I sacrificed my body, but I saved the bicycle :-)

    3. Hunkkebon, I know we moved to a new house when I was 12, and that photo was taken at the old house, so I think I was about 11 years old.

  8. Terrific photos - and you look terrific too! I love looking at these old photos. I hope you have written your 'life story' for posterity for your descendants as life in the fifties is history to them even if it only seems like yesterday to us!

I sometimes put my old photos on my facebook page so that friends can have a laugh at my expense!

    1. Thank you, John! I have traced my ancestors back to the early 1700s, and concentrated on "personal" stories rather than merely "facts". Myself and my family are included.

  9. I love old photos, and they're even better if they're of someone I know. You were quite pretty back when. Now you're pretty... old. You know I'm kidding, you're beautiful now. Thank you for the glimpse into your life.

    1. Langela, you're soooo mean! I'd get rid of ya if I didn't love you so much ;-)

    2. That and you'd have no one to give it back to. I'd never dare to say that to someone with no sense of humor and wouldn't tease me back. That would just be mean.

    1. Thank you, Nutmeg! Our wedding photo wasn't as good as it could have been if we didn't both have the stomach flu that day. I was feeling so queasy, I was afraid I was going to throw up during the ceremony!

  11. Wow, Granny, you were a hot babe and you knew how to give a peace sign as a 1-yr old! Incredible! Mr. Granny is a very lucky man!
