My daughter put off the pumpkin carving until today. She is going to tackle it this morning. I purposefully held out the largest of the bunch for her to choose from. (She's not spoiled - no sirree!).
KitsapFG, all the Jack O' Lanterns in these photos are mush, having been carved too early. I warned them to wait, as they probably last a max of three days after being carved....less than that if they light a candle in them. Amy said that beauty in the photo with Alicyn (that was my largest pumpkin) was all smushed and covered with fruit flies now. She sure did a great job carving it, though.
Sue, we have a rather ho-hum Halloween here, too. We buy a big bag of candy the week before, eat it all by Halloween night, and thank Heaven we don't get any trick or treaters, because they are all partying down at the community center! I haven't even unpacked our decorations for the past two years.
Since my kids left for college I don't even carve a pumpkin anymore. I'll just hand out candy. The front door light is on and the sun has set. I'll start getting them anytime. I don't get many, but I enjoy the ones that come.
Daphne, all the Jack 'O Lanterns are thanks to you and your pumpkin seeds! We used to get a dozen or so for trick or treat before the community center began their Halloween night celebration for them...they provide hot dogs and hamburgers, and the town people donate candy. This year they are doing a "Trunk or Treat", decorating car trunks and pickup beds with each handing out the goodies.
Kelly, I was so upset when I found Alicyn's family only carved ONE of the 5 pumpkins I gave them! They had one for each member of the family, plus one extra. If I'd known they were going to just waste them, I'd have had the pulp in the freezer for pies :-(

ReplyDeleteMy kids carved today. Sarafina discovered that woodshop tools work really well.
ReplyDeleteI didn't grow any, though. I did cook an Italian one last night. Pies today!
Stefaneener, I already said I wasn't growing them next year, but I got an "Awwww" reaction. I think that means I should grow them next year ;-)
ReplyDeleteDaughter Amy discovered the round lid cut from a can worked great as a scraper. I'd suggest a heavy glove to keep it from cutting your hand, though!

ReplyDeleteDang, granny....y'all went all out on the carving thing. Great job!
ReplyDeleteHappy Halloween, Gran! Hope you and the hubby have a GHOULISH night, WAHAHA!
ReplyDeleteLOL, EG...I didn't carve that, my daughter Amy did! I was too busy this week building and planting my great big 9 sf garden!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Thomas. Grannywitch wishes you and yours the same. BWAHAHAHAHA.
ReplyDeleteNice pumkins, that baby girl is so precious!
