February 28, 2011 - February Finale

What a good way to end February! With all the plants I want to start in March, these coupons couldn't have come at a better time. I always buy Ace Potting Mix for making my soil blocks, and that $10 coupon will almost pay for two large bags. I already have a lot of seeds, but at 50% off for Ed Hume seeds ( I love Ed Hume seeds) , I can't resist. I'll replace some of my older seed, and probably buy a few different varieties of others. I am short on carrot varieties, I think I might have about five broccoli seeds left, and I'd like to plant some turnips. I'm sure I'll find a few more seeds I just can't resist. Uh....no more tomatoes, I promise ;-)

  1. Thanks for the heads up sale...I'm going to see if it applies to my area.

  3. Wow, any coupons relating to garden stuff would be welcome. Just bought a several pieces of lumber from Menards when they had 11% rebate. Hubby will be building 2 raised beds 4'X10' each. Do you plant eggplants and bell peppers at all? If so, what varieties?

  4. RandomGardener, I don't plant eggplant. I did last year, I grew two of them in big pots. They were beautiful, but we just don't really like them, so I'm not wasting the space this year. I do grow my own peppers, and will be starting the seeds inside soon. Quadrato Rosso D'Asti (my favorite huge bell), along with other peppers; Early Jalapeno, Hungarian Wax, and Red Marconi (new to me this year) will be grown.

  5. EG, I mean no more tomato seeds other than what I already have, 'cause I already have a LOT!!! More than I have room for, actually.

  6. Drat it. I had given up on Fred Meyer having the 50% off this season. Guess I'll be buying the warm weather seeds this week! (Though, I did buy them at 40% off, in the end, what's dollar's difference?)

  7. Ginny, good luck! I always count on Fred Meyer to come up with a 50% off sale early in the spring and again during the summer. I just lucked out on the other one when we closed our PO box and went back to our street address. I got a 10% off Lowe's coupon and the $10 Ace Hardware coupon. I used the Lowe's coupon when I bought my new stovetop, and it saved me about $60!

YC, I buy a lot of my seeds at FM during their summer 50% off sale, and they are perfectly good for the following year. They have several varieties of flower seeds I want right now.

  8. I didn't have to buy any seeds this year...I had enough from last year, some I saved and some I traded.

I've given your blog an award...I don't really know much about these, but I'm suppose to pass it on.

  10. I like our local Ace Hardware. Even though it is a large company, our little store is more like the Mom and Pop hardware store of yesteryear. They always greet you at the door to say "hello" and see if you need help, they have a resident kitty cat that is always up for a scratch behind the ears, and I usually find my favorite fish and farm compost there in the spring. I am going to keep my eyes peeled for a $10 coupon.

  11. Lynda, I didn't need more seeds, either. But I bought them anyway ;-)

Thank you for the award, I gladly accept it!

Barbie, you have to put in a change of address at the PO to get it. We closed our PO box and reverted back to our house address.

Rachel, we have a good Ace Hardware in Blythe, CA when we go down to AZ. There are only a couple of them here, and the closest one isn't that great. The other one is too far away. Too bad, because I do like many of their products.
