August 1, 2013 - There's a New Man in Town

There's a new man in town, and he's in my garden!

This appeared on my doorstep this afternoon, a gift from Tobe Brockner of ScareCrowAtions.

My earlier (feeble) attempt at erecting a scarecrow wasn't exactly a success.  That puny Granny Junior just didn't have what it takes to scare off a mouse, let alone a crow!  This guy, however, really has the brawn to do the job!  Look at the size of his....uh, leg?  That strong torso!  And those are some big hurkin' .......arm?

That handsome face could grace any granny's garden.  He's all ready to pitch in and help, too.  He brought his own trowel and some work gloves.  OK, so they are rather girly gloves.  A real man can admit to his feminine side.

He's six feet tall, so I did have to get a bit of help from Mr. Granny to get him situated in the middle of the 2014 strawberry patch (yes, half of those transplants died.  Luckily I have more).  He did a happy dance when I brought him that basket of tomatoes, and appointed himself "Guardian of Granny's Garden".

What a proud fella he is.  In his sissy hat.  Wearing his sissy gloves.  Oh, dear...what should we name him?   Any ideas?

Thank you, Tobe and ScareCrowAtions!  Granny loves presents!

    1. Tami, I think I'll put all suggestions in a hat and draw one out. Although I'm kind of leaning toward Boy George or Lum.

  4. I especially love his beer-belly! He can handle the sissy hat and gloves! I'm not good at naming things but he looks like a Lum to me. We had a restaurant chain around here in the 70s by that strange name.

    1. Nutmeg, I like Lum. Reminds me of Lum and Abner, the hillbillies that were popular when I was a kid.

  5. He's got quite a gut on him, Granny. Are you sure he's "guarding" your garden and not helping himself to it? The first name that came into my head was Gary. I have no idea why. I'll try to think of something better.

    Btw, what a nice gift!

    1. Langela, me's built just like Mr. Granny! Almost. Mr. Granny was jealous that the scarecrow's chest hadn't slipped quite as low as his :-D

  6. Ha! He looks very real. From the size of his belly, he should maybe do a little more work rather than just stand around!

  7. I think you should worry. He looks awfully fat and pleased with himself. Are you sure he hasn't been eating your corn?

    1. Keri, thank you for the gift, and for visiting my blog! The crows don't seem to bother my garden, so I might have to call him a ScareSquirrel!

    1. I miss you too, BFF. I see your pretty face on Facebook (when I go there, which is very seldom). Today I could name him "Baldy". Mr. Granny took his straw hat back, sans the sunflowers. Now I need to go to Goodwill to try to find him another one. We can't have a hatless scarecrow!
