Harvest from yesterday and today.
Then, of course, there are always windowsill tomatoes.
The weekend harvest, from the refrigerator crisper.
It all has to be taken care of tonight. Except that onion that seems to be hanging in mid-air. That can stay right where it is until I need it.
Beans will be washed, snapped, blanched and frozen. Peppers will be diced and frozen. Tomatoes will be made into juice, then refrigerated and canned tomorrow. Summer squash can go in the fridge to be eaten in the next day or two. Melons will be chilled, and eaten as soon as possible. Why do they all want to ripen at once? It's already after 7 PM, so I hope it can all be accomplished before midnight! Wish me luck.

You. Amaze. Me. :-)
ReplyDeleteyou go, granny! ps, must your posts always make me feel like a lazy ass? hehe, kidding.=)
ReplyDelete1st. Man and Kelli, I just updated the blog post. I got finished at 10:47!
ReplyDeleteSuperwoman!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a satisfying feeling though, isn't it?
I feel like I can't get caught up, but deep down inside, I love it. The days just fly by and there's something about squirreling all that food away that feels so good.
We just got our chickens for the year and the lady called to say the beef will be ready in October.
So---fruits and veggies-Check
meats-Check
Bulk grains-Check
Propane tank--STUFFED full!
Winter---I'm ready for ya!!!
:D
No beef, no grains, no chickens and no burning propane in the fireplace until I get someone to cut off the pine tree limb that is now hovering over and touching the chimney. I can just see that tree bursting into flames! Unfortunately, the cutting of the limb is beyond my capabilities :-(
DeleteBut I have veggies!
You amaze me, too. And, you make me envious. Inspire me, too, but I never get around to anywhere near your accomplishments. I want some of that cantaloupe for breakfast.
ReplyDeleteDianefaith, I don't believe that for a moment! I read about your many accomplishments, they just differ from mine. I'll eat some extra cantaloupe for you ;-)
DeleteGreat job Granny. I had to buy my stuff to preserve today. I bought some peaches and plums to make BBQ sauce. I'm going to try the rhubarb one too.
ReplyDeleteDaphne, at least the tomato juice is quick and easy to make. I don't need any more tomato type sauces this year, so it's the year of salsa and juice. I'm going to run out of freezer space long before I run out of beans and peppers, though.
DeleteOh my goodness, I am so impressed by both your harvest and work ethic!
ReplyDeleteLOL, Jennifer, my harvest was pretty good, my work ethic was forced upon me! I had been gone all day, and there wasn't room for the afternoon's picking in the refrigerator, so I gritted my teeth and lit into it last night.
DeleteImpressive harvest and impressive work! I was soundly asleep at 10:47. ;-)
ReplyDeleteAnke, I was sound asleep by 10:57!
DeleteI swear your garden is on steroids! Lol....that is a lot of food to take care of in a short period of time. Every spring I plant way more than I need. I had to plant my beans 5 times this year, so we are just starting to get pole beans. The animals this year kept eating all my bush and pole beans. I moved them closer to the house. Your food looks so good! robbie:-)
ReplyDeleteRobbie, the same thing happened to my pole beans (bugs, not animals), and they are just now bearing well. So I checked the ones I planted for fall, and they already have beans on them! I'll probably be picking from both plantings by next week.
DeleteI wish I had half your energy :) I dug up those melon seeds, Turns out I have a whole pack from 2011. I recall getting them on sale and then I must have forgot about them. I'll make a note and send them after I order seed in the new year. I might have a few more goodies to offer then too.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds great, Dan. You might have my old PO address, so I'll email you with a good one. We gave up the post office box when we sold the Arizona house, as we no longer move back and forth.
DeleteWow! You are a whiz to get all that done! Wish I was young like you!!!!!! Nancy
ReplyDeleteLOL, Nancy! I did just get them bagged and in the freezer. I ended up with three one-pound bags of diced peppers and a gallon of green beans. The tomato juice is canned, and I got 5 quarts plus 2 cups in the fridge. I ate one whole, well almost...there's a little bit left, cantaloupe! It was pretty good, so I had it for breakfast, lunch and dessert! With three of them ripe at once, we have to eat them fast. Granddaughters are coming for breakfast, so I have the second one all cut up and chilling now. And I had a request for "Grandma's bread for breakfast", so I have a fresh loaf cooling on the counter tonight. It's been a busy two days!
DeleteI thought I came home to a bountiful harvest after my trip to Chicago. Apparently not, compared to yours. I thought I was being really hard-working making dinner just the day after coming home. Apparently not, compared to you! Granny, like I've always thought, you are an Inspiration to grannies and non-grannies everywhere! I'm so glad I found you!
ReplyDeleteOh, for Heaven's sake. I'm going to have to buy myself a great big hat to cover my swelled head, LOL!
