August 6 - Hotter 'n Salsa!

It hit triple digits today.  Officially it was 100 degrees, but it was hotter than that here, out in the sun.  I went out early in the morning and picked a few beans, trimmed back a few raspberry canes, pulled out two sick tomato plants and picked a bunch of peppers for today's batch of salsa, but the heat was too intense to do any more.

Tonight, after dinner, I canned 8 pints of salsa, and put a quart more in the refrigerator for immediate consumption.  My youngest son is eating it as fast as I can make it, so I guess I don't need to bother canning his.

  1. I sure hope you get a break from all that heat soon. Ugh. And I know you're on the same page as me concerning AC. Double Ugh!!
Well, don't go over doing it in the garden. I hate to waste good veggies too, but when it gets that hot, you gotta RELAX. Ok?

We've actually had rain (!!!!) this morning. What a downpour. It's always "all or none". It's so dry, it just runs off.

    1. But, but.....I have to get the poop out of the garage! Sue, we actually got some rain about a week ago. 1/10 of an inch. Big deal. At least, with our irrigation water, I don't ever have to worry about the garden drying out.

Yes, I hate AC. I keep a fan in the kitchen, which works fine for me, but Mr. G keeps cranking that temp down. He was gone all day on Monday, so I turned the thermostat up, the fan on, and got through an entire day of bread baking, etc., without that AC blasting at me. I was perfectly comfortable.

  2. We have had some nice weather recently. Near 80s and not too humid. Beautiful weather for working in the garden. So just about normal for August here, but your averages tend to be about 10 degrees higher than ours. We only have a couple of dozen days with record temps in the 100s. Most of them are in the 90s. Stay cool.

    1. Oh, you're so lucky Daphne! During those two "cool" days we had last week, I got so much done. We're above average still, but expecting to be back to our normal mid-90s by the end of the week. I'm so anxious to see the 80s! I love September weather, but hate to see the garden gone by mid-October. It's actually cool this morning, only 54 (it's been over 65 every other morning this week), so we'll get at least a 45 degree jump from low to high today.

  3. I am such a weather wimp. I melt as soon as it reaches the mid-80s. We didn't have triple digits yesterday, but I talked the husband into eating dinner out in air-conditioned comfort. I like AC, but it really doesn't make sense here.

    1. Alison, the older I get the less tolerant I am of AC. I absolutely freeze in public places (or my daughter's house and office). I'm grabbing for my coat at 68 degrees!
