September 5, 2009: I Just Have to Add....

This is an addendum to the earlier post, as I just had to add one more photo. The earlier ones were taken late yesterday afternoon and last night, so my morning glory (in the raspberry patch) wasn't in bloom. It's too bad we have cloudy skies today, as I love this vine against a blue sky.

This birdhouse was occupied all summer. The sparrows raised two families in it, so now there will be more birds to decapitate my peas and lettuce next spring.

  1. Your blue morning glory is beautiful. I went back and read your 7 things blog. Wow! You are some artist! Those paintings are great.

  2. That is unbelievably beautiful! The blue of those morning glories is so bright and vibrant. It deserves its own post :)

  3. MissyM & Crystabel, I'm loving that morning glory! It took it a long time to get past the raggedy-leaves-no-blossoms stage, but when it did....just wow! Next year I'll plant seeds in the ground (these are in a container) and put in twice as many, and provide them with a trellis in a place of honor in the landscape! These are from dollar store seeds, and cost all of 15-cents for the entire packet :-)

  4. Here, they're often invasive. I bet it's the mild winters. They are so very pretty, though. Your picture has nice saturated colors.

  5. Stefaneener, the wild varieties are invasive, but not these. I had a heck of a time just getting them to grow! I love the color, it's so seldom you find a true blue in flowers.

  6. I love morning glories this color blue. I bought some seeds of this same variety in a bargain bin a few weeks ago and can't wait to grow them next summer. Did they require any special care?

  7. Thomas, I don't think they like real fertile soil. I put mine in a basket lined with landscape fabric, and filled it with potting mix. It started very slowly and the insects loved it when it was small. It took much longer than I thought it would to grow thick and begin blossoming. Next year I'll give it a proper spot in the garden, with its own trellis. It's worth showing off.

  8. Thank you, Toni. I'll definitely plant them next spring.

  10. Sue, I know her, too. When I saw that blue roof, I thought of these morning glories.
