*Sue covets my spinach*
Here ya go, Sweetie!
I picked some of the overwintered Tyee spinach today. A whole sink full!
I was afraid the large leaves would be tough and strong tasting, but they weren't at all. They passed the "raw spinach salad" taste test for tenderness and sweetness.
All washed and spun dry, it weighed in at exactly 1 1/2 pounds. There's lots more where that came from! Maybe I can deliver by drone? LOL!
Amy had her camera on me while I was doing a bit of work in the garden. When I look in the mirror, all I see is thinning hair on the front and sides of my head. I never even thought to get out a hand mirror to look at the TOP of my head! The photos showed massive hair loss, and the chance of a sunburned scalp. It positively glowed in the sun! Probably blinded the neighbor. So I cut off the top of my head (in the photo, of course) so you could see that I do actually get out to do a bit of gardening. Then I finally gave in and put on the little grey knit cap. My head is very small. My head looks like an egg on a neck. Maybe I should stuff the cap with newspaper :-)
LOL!--oh, you dear sweet thing. It's beautiful spinach. I can almost taste it! LOL!
ReplyDeleteThank you!!
And yeah, watch for that sunburn. Hubby is a little, ahem, short on top and it's hard to put sunblock on a noggin !!
Hugs and love and thank you for the chuckle!
:-D
DeleteMy spinach was terrible this year. only two plants came up. A few years ago I had it coming out my ears.
ReplyDeleteI have the opposite problem that you have. I have a rather large head and have a hard time finding hats that fit. I guess it means I have more brains hahaha. Guess I should put them to better use.
Peggi, my mother had a small head, as did her mother. Mom always said. "Small head full of wit, big head full of sh.............. Well, I'll let you finish the saying, LOL!
DeleteRight now I'd opt for the big head.
LOL... ahhhh, this cracked me up!! Love that humor Granny!!! btw... I reined in G+, and fixed the comment section. Thanks for letting me know. xo
DeleteWow ! Lovely looking spinach. Hang in there friend. Glad to see you out in your patch.
ReplyDeleteI'm hangin', Marcia. I'm hangin' !
DeleteSpinach looks sooooo good! My overwintered Bloomsdale went to seed here in northern Cali fornia more than a month ago. We sure enjoyed it though, i miss it! Your lettuces sound marvelous too. Time to plant heat tolerant stuff here though. Sounds like you are ready for a new gardening hat! Thanks for the update and photos.
ReplyDeleteUnknown (I don't feel like you are "unknown"), I still have 3-4 weeks before our warm weather plants can go out, but broccoli, cabbage, leeks, parsley and carrots are a go. Now I just need to find enough stamina to get 'er done!
DeleteIt's so good to see the photo of you out gardening, even if you did cut off the top of your head. Your spinach looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteIt was good, Alison. Amy took most of it home (she's into juicing), but I kept enough out for spinach salads tonight, and enjoyed it immensely! Mr. Granny tried to feed his to the dogs, but they weren't having that, LOL! He likes his spinach cooked.
DeleteWow, that's like dinosaur spinach. We love spinach. It got too warm here too quickly for spinach but I'm going to try Fall spinach since we get a second season later in the year. Side note, got tomatoes, eggplants, peppers and herbs into some of the raised beds and set up the drip irrigation on a timer. Now we just have to cross our fingers and hope for the best.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, wear a cap if you are outside. My hair, while not thinning, I keep buzz cut really short and I burned my scalp last Summer. I had "sunburn dandruff" for a week or so, ha.
1st. Man, I have spinach planted in several spots, but this overwintered stuff has to come out soon. I'll be planting bush beans and sweet peppers in that bed, and it's just a matter of days or (with luck) a couple of weeks until the leaf miner flies ascend and ruin it all. I still have one bed of new plants to get covered with netting for protection.
DeleteGreat to hear you are getting some planting done, and the irrigation set up. We had four broken sprinkler heads around the yard, so I have to get my son-in-law here pronto!
I just realized I haven't looked at anyone's blogs today! I've been too busy, Land now I'm too tired, LOL!
So...you were positively glowing? That's usually a good thing, Granny. ;)
ReplyDeleteLOVE spinach! I'll be over tomorrow.
Oh, yes, Langela. Shining like a spotlight.
DeleteBring bread.
Well Granny, you may have lost some hair, but you definitely haven't lost your sense of humour! Please put me on the list for long-range spinach delivery by drone...
ReplyDeleteMark, as soon as Sue sends that drone back, I'll head it your way!
DeleteThat is some beautiful spinach. And my husband won't step outside without a hat. No one wants a sunburn on the top of their head.
ReplyDeleteDaphne, the next batch goes to Mr. Granny, who loves it drowned in vinegar. Not my cuppa tea, but I do like it with butter, s and p. I just like the flavor of the spinach to come through.
DeleteI love my spinach cooked with vinegar. Yum. I do eat it other ways occasionally but not that often.
DeleteYour spinach harvest looks amazing! Mine is still so tiny out there, I keep hoping it'll magically grow into something edible over night. ;-) Glad you got to enjoy your garden for a bit!
ReplyDeleteAnke, my spring spinach is still small, but I've actually picked a few baby leaves to toss into my salads. I guess I'll be using the overwintered stuff now, and let my babies grow a bit more.
DeleteGranny, you crack me up! You haven't lost your sense of humor, I see. Your head looks to be of normal size to me, maybe you just have broad shoulders, lol... It's great to see you out in the garden. XOXO
ReplyDeleteIt was 73F out in the garden today, Mrs. R. Sure did feel good for the 30 or so minutes I lasted before having to take a nap, LOL!
