September 6, 2009: I've Been Memed!

I have no idea what a meme is, but I recieved two of them yesterday!

A meme (pronounced /ˈmiːm/, rhyming with "cream") is a postulated unit or element of cultural ideas, symbols or practices, and is transmitted from one mind to another through speech, gestures, rituals, or other imitable phenomena. (The etymology of the term relates to the Greek word mimema for "something imitated".) Supporters of the concept regard memes as cultural analogues to genes, in that they self-replicate and respond to selective pressures. Memeticists have not empirically proven the existence of discrete memes or their proposed mechanism, and memes (as distinct from ideas or cultural phenomena) do not form part of the consensus of mainstream social sciences.

Hmmm. I still don't know what a meme is, but evidently this meme is a game of tag. I was tagged by two of my dear readers, and honored to be selected by them.

MissyM, of Missy & Wayne's Back Yard, was the first to tag me. Missy is a hoot! She has beautiful flowers, an adorable dog and delighful cats. I just have to giggle whenever I see the photo of the cat named Sister Peter Marie. I swear, if that cat wore a habit she'd look just like some of the nuns I've known! I assume MissyM also has a delightful husband, named Wayne. I've not seen a photo of him, I think she keeps him hidden!

Next, I was tagged by Dot. She raises her veggies in pots on her balcony in Sydney, Australia, and blogs about them at A Faerie's Garden. I've tried container gardening in Arizona, and failed miserably, so I'm in awe of her container gardening skills. Dot even grows stuff like cauliflower....I failed at that in my garden this spring. Since our seasons are reversed, and she's just heading into spring, it will be fun to watch her garden progress while mine is in winter retirement.

Now, on to the tag award. You're too late, girls *wink* I did my difficult job of listing and picking last June when Sue, of Making a House a Home, tagged me. You can read it HERE. Picking seven others to tag was the most difficult thing I've done since beginning my blog, because I love each and every one of you.

I'll be looking, MissyM. If I have to, I can copy them again. If I have the DVDs here and not in AZ!

  5. You got out of that one didn't you?! rofl. Not that I'm surprised you've been meme'd before ;) Thanks for the link, it was nice to read more about you. As for the yo-yo dieting, how is that even possible? You're so well stocked with lovely healthy food from your garden imo you need some of that gorgeous zucchini (still healthy!) fudge cake to even things out.

  6. LOL, Dot...it's that "healthy" zucchini cake, zucchini bread, fried zucchini, pumpkin pie, baked squash with gobs of brown sugar and butter. My garden makes me fat!
